    How do you make a modern sports car fast? You put a 20 year old engine into it.. I know the GT86 wasn't designed with high power figures in mind, only what power you need to keep your foot in it while carving a canyon (and you can tell by how much the chassis seems to flex on launch or burnouts in this; you can see some panels flexing). But it's incredible that in order to resort to such high performance you have to go to designs from decades ago. The 2JZ is an astounding beast, released well ahead of its time.

    @PeePee2000 Little bit late, but it was 600hp reliable on a stock short block. All the 700/800 hp were bullshitted by people trying to overpraise it and went 100hp higher than the confirmed stock internal "Reliable" figures. everyone who went over 600hp blew it up after a year or two. Sooner if tracked. A couple pulls wont hurt it. Maintaining that power for long duration does.

    People who buy this car could care less how fast (or slow) it goes in a straight line. With a few small bolt-ons (CAI, exhaust, pulleys, tune), you can add an easy 30HP, throw in f/r strut braces, a short shifter, some upgraded bushings, and remove the spare tire/tool kit and you have a very fun to drive 230HP car with a power/weight ratio close to 10:1 (2550/230) All without voiding a warranty and keeping the geometry of the car in tact.

    If you don't drive the car daily, probably. With a high torque pressure plate & lightweight flywheel you have to blip the throttle up and engage slightly. Otherwise the clutch will fully engage and you will stall. This is especially true with 6-puck and 4-puck clutch discs. It's not as easy as driving stock vehicles. You won't fully understand until you've driven a vehicle with this combination. It's great for racing though!

  • @KHROMATICxKHAOS

    @KHROMATICxKHAOS

    9 жыл бұрын

    syngatesJr6661a7x You have to understand that those size tires are on more than just a Prius... They're 215/45 17's, which isn't on a NORMAL Prius(They typically have 16's, older ones had 15's). That was put way out of perspective there. My Lexus IS300 uses the same size tires, and makes the same power as the FR-S, but weighs a lot more than it. It still has no problem sliding perfectly around corners, with a little kick of the clutch. And if I'm not mistake, they do have an option for bigger tires on the TRD version.

    It's still a GT86 nonetheless, only with a 2JZ-GTE. You can't name a car by it's engine alone. Different models can be originally equipped with the exact same engine while a specific model can also be equipped with different engines from generation to generation. The Supra, as an example, have had many different engines just like several other models have had the 2JZ series engine.

    Worst driver ever. It's no wonder the car broke. Teach this driver throttle regulation while engaging the clutch at low rpm. I can smell it from here. .

    ***** cars like that make there torque at hi rpms plus there clutches are hard as shit it s easier to drive a civic than one of those cars trust me I stalled my 600 hp s10 4 times before I got used to it

    ***** Power is a functional dependence of torque. They both in function of revs make the external engine characteristics, and which one is bigger depend on the units, u use - with power in [hp] and torque in [Nm], related to the rot. speed in [rpm] their crosspoint is always on 5250 rpm if i remember right. Nevermind if engine is diesel, gasoline or electric, or steam. And second - handling a high horsepower/liter engine is tricky, because usually it has turbo without variable geometry and it's boost is tightened in a closer range of rpm - as higher is the boost. The interest is to make power - so the trim-map of the turbine must make that close-range boost on higher revs and there the engine makes it's max torque, actually. The external engine characteristics (by torque) - from "bump"-like (atmosphere engines) or step-like for diesels and turbo-diesel, becomes "dual-step"-like. To put that momentum on the road, it has to be changed the numbers in the gearbox or lowering the multiplication-number of the differential main gear (rack-pinion). Because you have limitations in traction. And there's the tricky part - your massive-turbocharged engine - let's say, 1.4-liter l4, has 120 Nm from 1200 to 5000 rpm, than, the turbo kick in yo, and in matter of 500-1000rpm between 5000 and 6000, your momentum becomes not 120 but 350Nm and holds untill 7500, than start dropping maintaining almost constant power up to 9000... So, to have a clutch, which fit on 1.4-l gearbox and not weight like second flywheel, it has to be multiplate. Multiplates are ..evil. Especially when they are build for racing and not work in oil-bath. Practically they work in "on/off"-regime. Urban legends tell stories, where drivers fit small electric motors on the undriven axel, just to be able to park their car... not sure what happened. :D The idea was - you work with the clutch, on revs where your motor has 300+Nm, otherwise the [GB-number]*[diff-number]=[end-ratio] comes too long for 120Nm and the sharp rise of the multiplate shutdown your engine. On lows it becomes even sharper.. and on high - you go with a tirespin. Amen.

    ***** the vid I have posted is an XRunner aka my daily and sorry for misspelling some words im writing off a phone btw nothing you said in your reply justifies why im wrong because with any built engine especially a cammed one you don't have practically any low end torque which is what gets you going that why he has to drive it like that. is he being a little exaggerated yea a little.
