wow i just chanced upon eivor and it didn't take me a long time to fall in love with her music - brilliant!

@Cherrycouture01 It's about her two nieces, named: Elinborg and Elisabeth Maria. The song descripes the two, how Eivør sees them, and e.g. that Elisabeth Maria has beautiful blue eyes, and she paints beautiful paintings, with yellow, blue and other colors... And the songs ends with them going to sleep... So basically the song is a tribute to her nieces...

Here's my interpretation. In trying to rhyme in English I've had to change a few words but hopefully its pretty close to the sentiment of Eivor's original. Also I'm not a Faroese speaker ( or a poet!) so apologies to Eivor. Little sweet Elinborg with hair yellow as sun She sings and dances freely enjoying springtime fun She plays amongst the flowers Beautiful colours she loves them all Like a queen of buttercups* in the grass she's sitting tall Elisabet Maria has pretty eyes so blue She paints such beautiful pictures in yellow and red hue She paints all the colours that the day may make appear Like a fair sun-star** Is Elisabet Maria Soon it will be peaceful and the birds their wings will rest The bright sun is asleep now and the moon will shine its best The sisters go to pappa who has stories for them to hear Until sleeping are little Elinborg and Elisabet Maria. * the buttercup idea was suggested on a lyrics forum because of the abundance of them in the Faroe Islands in late spring and summer. The original words are "ein føgur sóljudrotning" = "a fair sun queen" but "sólja" is a buttercup.** original words are "ein føgur stjørnusól" = "a fair sun-star". @@lypetersen2255 Thank-you! It was actually a lot of fun to do although knowing only a few words of your language from Eivor's songs it took a lot of looking up in the online dictionary! Btw I'm sorry for the late reply - it didn't appear in my notifications so I've only just seen your comment
