EINKORN CHALLAH BREAD RECIPE - BAKE WITH ME!

A fresh take on a classic recipe, this Einkorn Challah Bread is both delicious and versatile! Tender and lightly sweet, it’s perfect with honey or jam, toasted, sliced for a sandwich, or made into French toast! It uses nutritious einkorn flour, contains no dairy, and is sweetened naturally with honey - it’s a bread you can feel good about eating!

WHY EINKORN CHALLAH?
The reason I chose to develop a recipe for Einkorn Challah Bread was out of necessity: I have a sensitivity to modern wheat and cannot tolerate dairy well. I also wanted a recipe that used a healthy oil and sweetener as opposed to canola oil and refined sugar. I’m hoping this recipe will serve you well if you have similar wishes and needs!
WHAT IS EINKORN?
Einkorn is considered to be the "original wheat." Modern wheat and flour we use today has been greatly altered and bred over the centuries and is a different product than wheat used to be. Einkorn is generally more nutritious, lower in gluten, and incredibly delicious too! That being said, you can’t always just substitute it one-for-one in place of modern all-purpose flour as it handles a little differently.

    Thank you so much for posting an Einkorn recipe without sourdough! Some of us get physically ill from it and if the goal is to get better and not worse, we need to incorporate choices custom fit to our own constitutions and i appreciate an Einkorn bread recipe without having to have a sourdough 😊

    My pleasure! I hope it worked out well for you. I've tried sourdough and while I like sourdough bread pretty well I don't particularly enjoy the sourdough taste in all baked goods.

    Hi, just started using Einkorn wheat flour, but I'm milling my own, will this recipe work with freshly grinded flour? Love the way your recipe turns out.. thanks for sharing.

    Hi there! I've never personally milled my own einkorn (I use the Jovial brand pre-milled), but my mom does and she didn't think it would make much difference. She's never tried it with this recipe, though. Hope it turns out well for you! :-)

    Have you tried milling your own einkorn berries? I was wondering because I have einkorn berries and was wondering if it was the same as store bought einkorn flour. Your challah looks delicious.

    I'm sorry to hear that! Did you brush it with the egg wash just before baking? That helps give it a golden color. Also making sure it bakes long enough - I tend to go by color and sound when tapped on the bottom, but temping it with a thermometer can also be helpful.
