Eiheiji temple and the essence of Zen [Deep Japan] plus Echizen Daibutsu 永平寺

The last samurai visits Eiheiji temple in Fukui prefecture, Japan and talks about the eseence of Zen. Dogen, the founder of Soto sect of Zen Buddhism built this temple in 1244. And he left the words about Zen which are easy to understand for us. And after Eiheiji temple, the last samurai visits Seidaiji temple in Fukui to see Echizen Daibutsu, the great big Buddha in Fukui. Surprisingly, he was the only visitor in this temple.

The architecture of Eiheiji temple reminds me of a few temples in Kyoto, especially the pagodas and the covered passage way. Please enlighten us, Last Samurai sensei.
