Eight Days of Wink

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Puppy Wink came to stay with me for twelve days of puppy sitting. After a few days, I started working on her play skills and I recorded them on "Face Book Live" in an alumni group for students of the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy. Within that group, those individuals could watch her training in real time and then ask questions about my choices. This series ended up being an extraordinary learning experience for many students.
Day 1: 0:00; Day 2: 25:07; Day 3: 48:22; Day 4: 1:04:40; Day 5: 1:!5:15; Day 6: 1:30:20; Day 7: 1:48:58; Day 8: 2:05:22
WInk's mom has graciously agreed to allow these training and question/answer videos to be put here on youtube, unedited, so that others can learn from Wink's training and the questions posted by other students.
I concentrated on play with Wink, but we also worked on heeling, scent discrimination and dumbbell retrieve. You can see what she accomplished in these skills on her final video before returning home. Wink generally had two training sessions per day, and each day one was recorded via Face Book Live. That is what you will find here.
If you'd like to take classes to help you with your skills, The Fenzi Dog Sports Academy is online, extremely reasonably priced ($65 at bronze for a six week class) and offers from 25 - 30 classes per term to choose from. There is truly something for everyone.
You may also be interested in books written by Denise Fenzi and/or Deb Jones. Those are available at: www.thedogathlete.com or by searching Amazon for "Fenzi". A book that is very relevant to this video series is titled: Dog Sports Skills Book 3: Play!
www.thedogathlete.com also has a section called "Free downloads". You might as well help yourself to anything that you find of interest there. Free is free.
Denise's blog is www.denisefenzi.com You'll find an enormous number of training videos there, as well as discussions on most things related to dogs and dog training. That is also free.
If you follow Denise Fenzi on Facebook, you may also catch a variety of live presentations, taped options and just random, free dog training information. More free.

Thank you so much for posting this, I have learned so much mostly about relaxing and having patience while building the relationship. I've had more fun with my young dog these past two days than in last 2 weeks. Somehow seeing play in action over several days makes the process clearer.

This has been so interesting and like LLoyda below I am relaxing more with my little dog now that you've shown me it's ok to let it be slow and not right - something I kinda already knew but always need reminding of. I didn't catch this live and I do have a question that has been in my head since day two, if you wouldn't mind explaining I'd really appreciate it as I'm going to reevaluate what I'm doing and this would help with that: you don't take the toy away during play, that makes complete sense, but I notice that you always leave the toy on the ground at the end of the session - is this for the same reason that you don't want her to see/feel you take away the toy and then start to get issues with them keeping the toy away? I've always struggled with keep away with my smalls because I've always worked on the basis that you take it away whilst they are still really engaged it builds that motivation, but always felt uncomfortable doing this as I feel they are still worked up and frustrated but it has the desired effect of them being more into the toy next game time so I carry on not really knowing better. Anyway the question really boils down to why do you leave the toy? How does this build/increase play and toy focus for you?Thank you for sharing this has been incredibly valuable for me and my dogs. Oh would you ever consider a session on different types of play for dogs with physical barriers to tug/fetch? I have a dog with lumberscural disease and we can only play tug/chase or impact heavy games for a short period and not repetitively - but he so desperately wants to play and work I'm struggling to find a balance/alternatives for him... It just sounded in one video that your little one had some similar issues with play and wondered if you might have a course or session that might help with that. Best, Kate (sorry for massive post!)
