This was my Napoledan granmpa's favorite song - he loved music more than anything, and he used this folksong to propagandize us grandchildren into learning to play musical instruments. "A-Zinga-Zing, u-Plinga-Pling, Pa-Pa-Pa-Pa, u-frischoletto, tipiti tipiti ta!" 50 years after his death, one of his granddaughters is an acclaimed composer of contemporary serious music. I think Grampa would be very proud

There are a lot of similarities between Neapoletan and Sicilian dialect.

My dad used to sing us this song when we were kids.....,and you're right, it got us interested in music...I was about 3 years old...he was a musician......3 out of his 4 kids play at least 1 instrument...I did professionally for over 30 years......

I love the approach of translating the lyrics by just showing pictures of each instrument instead of writing it all out in English. :D Kinda works with the original song better that way too, 'cos the song just tells you what each instrument is by PLAYING it. So, this is basically the visual version of what the song does with sound. :)
