So, in Egypt, money is measured in pounds rather than dollars. Before coming to Egypt, I researched the currency and learned that it was called Egyptian pounds. So I expected to see price tags that read EGP, P, or even LBS. So when I first got to Egypt, I kept seeing signs that had a number and then LE next to it. I was so confused about what an LE was, but I soon learned that le is used to represent a pound, so 10 le means 10 pounds.
I just wanted to add that in there because it might save you some confusion,
So the egyptian pounds has a both notes and coins
Exchange Rates
Now when it comes to the exchange rate this is something that changes everyday. But as of now the best way to think about the exchange rate is the amount of pounds your usd can buy a good exchange rate will have 1 usd able to buy close to 16 pounds a bad exchange rate has usd buying close to 14 pounds. The actual rate is normally 1 dollar buys 15.6 pounds but many companies provide exhange rates lower than that which means you are not getting a fair exahnge on your money.
Some helpful advice for you to be able to quickly covert prices from Egypt pound to usd is remember 15 to 1.
15 pounds to 1 dollar. When you think of things that way it makes it so easy.
150 pounds is 10 dollars
1500 pounds is 100 dollars
My big piece of advice for you when it comes to exchange rate is to understand the exchange rate of any debit/credit cards you plan to use when you are out here.
Credit Cards
Within the country of egypt it is 100% possible to use your credit cards alsmost every place you will be visiting will have the machines need to pay with card. Just be mindful of your cards fees and you always want to alert your banks that you will be travelling over to egypt. So they dont flag your card and lock it. Most times you can just call in and put in a travel notice.

Thank you so much for the tip from your Egyptian youtube friend about going IN the bank to withdraw money instead of ATMS. The ATM stuff that I have seen about Egypt PLUS your horror story had me nervous about the withdrawing cash situation, but going inside of the bank itself seems logical and much more safe.

Good job!! Very informative. 🤎 just know Luxor is not credit card friendly especially on the West Bank side, CASH is king. And what you said about bank accounts, whew! I wish they would do better. 🤎🤎 thanks for sharing.

They probably use LE because pounds is referenced as Libra (lb) so maybe they abbreviate LE to say Egyptian Libra?

I prefer to just get egp at atm once you arrive. But you can go to most banks in the usa. Just call before you arrive and set up a date to pick it up.
