I want to say thank you for this series on battery trimmers. I didn't know where to start and this series was so informative I was able to buy my new Ego trimmer with confidence. I have used it all day and I'm super impressed! I own a dog boarding facility on my farm so we have about 800-1,000 feet of chainlink fence. That was overgrown and becoming a pain in the butt to deal with. I skipped trimming because changing string on my gas powered trimmer was terrible and dealing with gas and so on. Even though it took a couple charges the EGO trimmer was amazing. Kept a couple pre cut lines in my pocket and went to work. The power was surprisingly strong and line changes were a breeze. Now all of my yards look amazing and clean from tall edges and grass getting tall around the obstacles. Thank you again super informative, you do a great job! I'll be subscribing.

This is a great test, I watched the other 3 videos and was surprised when the Milwaukee Trimmer was able to go further than the EGO but then quickly remembered that you had used the stock battery. Even so, the 2,5 Amp hour battery was able to come very close to the 9 amp hour battery of the Milwaukee. I own the Carbon Fibre trimmer with the 2.5 battery and can trim my front and back yard and the side lot which is just over a half acre. The reload of the trimmer is super simple with the power head. I recommend investing in this tool and the rest of the ego eco system!

The milwaukee was overheating because it runs on a lower voltage system. Lower voltage = higher current. Higher current = more heat. The Milwaukee is going to create 3x as much heat because of the lower voltage it's using. With the milwaukee, having the same batteries in your yard tools as your power tools is very convenient, but the lower voltage in these high output tools is not appropriate.

It looks like it really brought the total loaded weight up quite a bit especially with that brick hanging off the ego! I've heard other people having issues with that Milwaukee cutting out like that like you had happening. I really think that 18v battery is being stressed to the absolute limit. Great power from the motor though at the cost of battery strain.

My M18 Fuel String Trimmer shuts down with very light residential/weekly lawn use -- nowhere close to the heavy field clearing that you did there. Milwaukee replaced my tool recently for this and the brand new one does the exact same thing. Almost unusable. I love it otherwise - well balanced, super quick response times, power when needed, small guard. But the cutting off is infuriating.

Great video! Both are very good trimmers. I have Milwaukee tools, which made the decision to go with their OPE an easy one. Otherwise, I likely would have went with Ego. That said, I'm quite impressed with the Milwaukee trimmer's performance, especially when using their 12.0ah battery. It's really made a noticeable difference in the trimmer's run time and, more importantly, its endurance in hot weather. I regularly trim an area of 1-2ft tall grass/weeds that is roughly 15' x 70' in one charge without cutouts, even in very hot weather. Prior, when using the 9.0ah battery, I could not finish the same area on one charge, and I'd get multiple thermal cutouts in hot weather (note: under normal loads/temperatures, the 9.0 never cut out). The 12.0ah's larger 21700 cells operate cooler than the 9.0ah's 18650's. During use, the 12.0's case feels noticeably cooler to the touch than the 9.0's. Ego's battery is impressive, however. As you said, its design allows better ventilation. It would, however, be impractical for use on most power tools, which explains Milwaukee's design.

@@Kitearmy Yeah, I saw that. You may be onto something with the lack of vent slots in Milwaukee batteries- they probably didn't anticipate the battery heat that would be generated from a device that would be drawing constant power for an hour or more. In one of your other videos you show the trimmer can be greased in the trimmer head. I wonder if keeping this gear properly greased is a key to keeping gear friction low, and putting less strain on the battery. Some complaints come after people have owned the trimmer a while, so maybe some of the grease has thinned out or lost some of its lubricating ability at that point.

Power head has a thermal shut off feature. I found that my 12.0 HO/HD would cause it to overheat much faster than my 8.0 HO battery. With the 12.0 it ran for 9-10 minutes, with the 8.0 around 13-18 minutes. I use it as a back up for my echo 2620t.

Funny you say that - originally I expected to do this video with the 10Ah - thank god I didn't - I would have died in that field.

100%! I use them in Turkey and deer hunting the clip ons, on the deck the lantern type. Keeps mosquitoes and no-see-ums away!

How does milwaukee be good in the yard when they don't make a fucking lawnmower, i have lots of money invested in milwaukee for hvac, plumbing construction i have 4 sets of drills and all their hand tools the only thing i don't own is yard tools and im tempted to go with ego just due to the fact milwaukee lacks a lawnmower

I have both , use both and EGO is as good as Milwaukee technically but I think Milwaukee is better in the consumer services end. EGO is sneaky but the electronics and construction are top rate.

Those results shouldn’t come as any surprise as the ego battery has nearly double the watt hours as the Milwaukee battery. In essence you’re comparing apples to oranges 👎
