agree paprika is superior to onions in this recipe. Onions mellow out the tanginess of tthe tomatoes and throw off the balance of the dish@@demelkon

Looks great. Nothing beats simplicity and quality ingredients. I love the North African version of this dish called shakshuka. It includes red bell peppers, crushed red chili and cumin. I like to finish with crumbled Feta, a drizzle of olive oil and freshly chopped parsley or cilantro...So DELICIOUS!

I totally agree!!! Love the feta cheese in shakshuka. We start with pan frying a sliced up chorizo until the slices are crispy and add these as a topping at the end. The grease from the chorizo is used to fry the onions and no added oil is needed.

I love Stanley Tucci man - I've done my own variation of this dish, sometimes it's called Eggs in Purgatory! I know there's different recipes and names for it from Spain, Africa, Italy, and probably more elsewhere too!

no it doesnt, both the tone and voice couldnt be further from that. his tone is giving out instructions (that never happens in wildlife commentary) and his voice is more of a war or just other type of documentaries.

@@uansari1 Usually, not. There is, however, a debate in Türkiye over whether or not to add onions. Similar, I suppose, to the debate in Spain over whether onions should be included in a Spanish tortilla.

Yes.. this is shakshuka but no paprika. Lebanon people eat this. I also learn how to cook egg and tomato but chinese version, delicious with rice.

@Threepwoodd The chinese version is a scrambled/stir-fry styled egg and tomato dish, actually, not eggs cooked in tomatoes and sauce. There's also several different variations to this style depending on where it's from. Different parts of china and neighboring asian countries all prepare them differently.

In Saudi we call it بيض عيون which translates to eyes eggs. Adding two green chillies "unchopped" and some chopped cilantro to the sauce or as a garnish is a must!

We call it "uova in purgatorio" in Italy. It's probably one of my favorites recipes because it's simple, quick and has overall good macros

As long as you're not counting carbs, then, yes. One of the most disappointing things to learn is that tomatoes have more carbs than you would think. Still, a very healthy dish nonetheless.

There are many different countries and cultures that have dishes like this . People were cooking eggs in tomatoes before tomatoes even existed in Africa.

This dish was common in the Americas long before shakshuka was a thing. I’m not sure why you think eggs cooked in tomatoes is only a shakshuka dish as if that was an original idea.

I just blew my GM's mind with this at a fine dining resturant where I'm the head prep cook. He loves eggs and he asked me what KZread video it was and I sent it to him. It blew him away. I'm serve safe manager qualified, and the rest is all trial and Era, and the Era comes on my own time and dime, and the rest has been Knowledge through KZread. Always remain teachable. I love this Italian version and, of course, the Tunisian version known as Shakshuka. Stanley’s narration of his book is a delicious good time.
4-6 large eggs….or three!
Filipino way: Beat the eggs and stir along with the sauted onion and tomatoes. Half cook eggs. Salt or seasoning powder. Serve immediately with toasted bread or fresh rolls.

It's called menemen. It's a Turkish breakfast meal. In Turkey also people add a lot of different ingredients in it. It's an easily customisable recipe.
