Just did this the past week on my vehicle. 2000 Camry 5SFE @155k miles. CEL P0420 Went out and bought from Walmart: 2.5 gals of Purple Power Degreaser 18 gallon capacity storage bin Took off the exhaust manifold/CAT combo and soaked it in the bin for 24 hours. I poured all 2.5 gallons and topped it off with another 1.5 gallon of water to submerge a large portion of the manifold. After taking the manifold out, I rinsed it thoroughly and then dunked it generously a few more times in the bin that's now filled with clean water. Once the part is rinsed and free from degreaser, I dried it off using a blower and then letting it bake in the sun. The soaking dissolved and loosen large amounts of carbon buildup. Upon reassembly and test drive, the engine response is smoother and the hesitation on hard acceleration is gone. Gonna take a mental note and see how it performs the coming weeks. So far I am convinced it cleaned up the cat really well!

I did this it worked ! Takes a long time 12-16 hours to be really effective.

2012 Hyudai Sonata with 277k miles on it. Check engine light came on; code for catalytic converter. Put 1 gallon of lacquer thinner in the tank with half a tank of gas in it. Drove it on the freeway for 70 miles between 70-80mph, the next day, the check engine light was gone. It works.

Freeway driving and also sometimes, hammering on the outside of the cat to loosen up things. The hammer trick fixed my lean codes.

It actually works. Worked on mine. 2002 Ford Taurus. It was so clogged the car was stalling. I cleaned the one . I have , technically, 2 others . Walmart has sells purple power the cheapest. $12 for 2.5 gallons and $23 for 5 gallon.

@@danielfiore8865 It did clean my cats but the honeycombs were too melted for it to make an impact. If your car burns oil this is something that should be done proactively to prevent the cats from running too hot. Unfortunately, I had waited too long.

Purple power is the stuff its the best cleaner for everthing

Are most CATs removable like that? Not welded on? I have a 4 cylinder 2004 Camry SE... CAT can be removed and cleaned without California smog inspection complaining about tampering?

Yeah, cats can be removed using a ratched. But they can be pretty tough to remove. Make sure you spray some WD40 onto the bolts before you attempt to remove it. They are some videos on KZread that show this process thoroughly.

The leading CAT on the Camrys are combined with the exhaust manifold. It's one whole piece that needs to be taken off. You'll need to use the large storage bin (roughly 18 gallon capacity) to fit it for soaking. Recently did this on my CA 4-cyl 2000 Camry. Taking a cat off for cleaning isn't tampering. Taking a cat off to remove the material for performance gains is considered tampering.

use citric acid next time. It will make it like new.

That looks like a 69 Boss 302 or maybe a Boss 429 Fastback. Either one will make your chest rumble when it rolls on by.

Yes he only had one huge issue later on, his car blew up a day later. He’s dead now. RIP KZread cat cleaner guy.

Hi, my check engine light on today . It say catalytic converter defect . But I have change it one month ago . Anyway I erase the code and check engine light gone . So my question is will it come back again. If so how long it will take to come back. Thanks Golf 5 ( 2008 ) 1.4 patrol engine I drove with bad kat about a week but no engine light on and after I drove another week without Kat no engine light on . When I change my both Kat and drove 500km not engine light. Then I put fuel injector cleaner and drove another 150 km . And after engine light on and it says on my obd2 Kat defect

@@1799cm2 I’m assuming since it won’t eat through plastic but will remove paint, and rust as well as weaken oils, dirt etc……… I do this with all my rusted parts and greasy materials. As soon as 24 hours I dry them quickly then clean with rubbing alcohol then spray with clear or with paint then clear depending if I want to paint the parts.

Anybody try Coca Cola yet?

So, a 60 years old person + will be under the car removing that shit? this is not the way.
