I only have two things on my counter. Papertowel holder and a water kettle. The toaster is on the fridge and everything else in cupboards. I love tidy and empty countertops!

I remember my mother saying that if you took just a few minutes to tidy up the living room or family room before going to bed, that it would make you feel so much better when you see it the next day. It is true, although I haven't when I have been really tired. The tiny bit of of picking up, does really help from keeping it from getting out of control. Amazing the small things that we can do and really doesn't take that long.

Efficiency tip: Donation bin is, itself, donatable. For example, use a cardboard box, not a good plastic bin that you want to keep. I use a brown grocery bag... it's smaller (so I donate more often), but I don't miss the bag at all!

Patty, you are absolutely right! For ours, the plastic bin was no longer needed after we cleaned out. It has previously been storing things we ended up decluttering.

My mom kept a clean house, but my half of my bedroom was a mess. My sister's half was clean. My mom was very frustrated with me. I wish she had calmly sat me down and showed me the "how to's" of keeping my room clean, step by step. I was clueless. I learned as an adult, on my own, over a period of years, how to keep my house uncluttered and clean. It is so relaxing, to sit in an uncluttered room!

Lol.....I'm being your mom right now....when my 15 year old "picks up" her room I go in later and make it wonderful for her...lol....She's really not that bad at keeping her room but she loves my calming touch....lol

Great video! One thing I have implemented over this past year is to rotate my home decor (similar to a toy rotation). I divided it by spring/summer and fall/winter. This way I can still keep my favorites without my home looking cluttered or crowded. I will rotate framed family photos. I also use the backwards hanger method in my closet to help me reduce my still-have-too-much clothing.

Me too on the seasonal switch out, those spring pillow, candles and throws freshen up the space so much, and feel new. Another thing I do is move my wall artwork around to different walls, I tend to stop seeing it in the same place, moving it around I appreciate it again, or decide to let it go!

The seasonal switch helps me overcome the temptation to buy décor. Everything looks fresh and interesting just by swapping linens and glassware.

Hi Jennifer, I love this type of video! Sometimes when I'm organizing, I'll use cardboard boxes until I decide whether or not to purchase bins/baskets or whether I need them at all. I like things to match and look cohesive so I'll spray paint the cardboard boxes or put contact paper on them. Call me crazy, but I just can't stand ugly boxes sitting around my house. I watch a KZreadr who uses Pampers diaper boxes all over her house, and it truly looks tacky. Have a great weekend!

Since two months i do a 10 min clean as a part of my morning routine. Firstly because of a time pressure i am really fast/effective and secondly when i come home from the office (usually overtired) have a clean home and no cleaning tasks.

I keep a cardboard box on my closet floor for donations from everywhere in the house. When it’s full, I just close it up and put it in the car to take to the thrift store.

Periodically review your stored items. The distance of time will make them seem less valuable to you and you will look at them with less bias towards keeping them. When I say storage, I mean items that could be stored out of sight such as under a bed or other piece of furniture. Once a year is probably frequent enough to get the benefit of this pause.
