Found myself liking every single pedal featured in the video, but that divide between a gear collector or a dabbler with a lot of disposable income, and a working musician who often has to be more pragmatic in their approach what they use and what they keep is undeniable. The MS-70 would scratch 90+% of any of my musical itches as a casual dabbler who listened to a lot of shoegaze music.

i remember being undecisive on my first reverb. i was between the supernatural and the RV7. because and it's funny that you mentioned the longdecay 'cause it was also one of my requirements. in the end I ended up going for the RV7, for including the reverse and the gated reverb for glide/spooky weird tone i still have it and i never regret having decided on that one. although in the future i would like to acquire the supernatural too. i currently use the RV7 in gated mode and combine it exactly with particle reverb from ms50g to give longspace reverse + shimmer effect with my squier jaguar. i find it funny and great at the same time that you choose exactly the same thing that interests me. it always inspires me and i notice new details, such as the difference between the gated of the digiverb and the hardwire, because i had not noticed that "gated" sound... now i feel like i need it urgently haha i do not have the digiverb but i have tried it and had the same appreciation only with the difference on the reverse reverb that the oscillation was softer on the digiverb than on the RV-7. a big greeting kenneth. i follow your channel since a lot and had never left a comment on your channel, so it's my first :} (i'm pretty bad at talking and commenting, but when i do i express a lot haha) P.S: supernatural reverb = cocteau twins hardwire RV-7 = mbv

Recommendation for a delay to check out Kenneth: Keeley ECCOS. It has presets, tap tempo, a looper, ext input, it's stereo and can create crazy modulated delays. A pedal I might want to get rid off: the Boss PS-2. Just didn't bond with it, find it unpractical and don't like the limited pitch shifting options. Want to replace it with the ehx Pitchfork for bass emulations. Nice vid again!

i loved this examination. thank you for taking the time and effort to explain what, why, and how. for me, i have a mix of old/obsolete gear (SP-202, QuadraVerb GT, JamMan Stereo), modern and multi-functional boxes (Specular Tempus, Alpha Haunt, Oceans12 ), and some stuff that seems so deep that i'll never fully understand, no matter how deep i may dive (Pladask Matrise, Roland TR-6S). honestly, the real problem is this: i feel that i've developed relationships with all of this tech, and to let them go would be unwise and short-sighted. it's likely illogical and unhealthy, but it is what it is. my solution was to get a shelf and grab the boxes i need in the moment for the project at hand. liked/subscribed

I think you’ll really dig Lowtide man. The first EP and first album are magic and they’re an incredible live band. There was a really great shoegaze scene here in Melbourne a few years ago! My band contrast used to play in a really cool scene with lowtide, flyying colours who are both still active. But great bands came and went that made some fantastic albums and ep’s. Hideous Towns, Parading, Bloodhounds on my trail, VIM and Blush Response yo name a few. I’m still quite happy with the Contrast album singularity we made as well. I think you might find things you like in all those bands... Check it out!

Got a Supernatural as my first reverb pedal around the same time as you, and really loved it. I wasn’t much into the soundscape thing at the time though, and all the sounds on it are a little too much, so I sold it when they started getting expensive. Regret dumping it, wish I still had one. I have “nicer” reverbs now I guess but it was the loss that now makes me keep every pedal I have unless I reallllly don’t like it lol.

Guys, the Digitech Whammy 5t Gen has a 2.1 DC plug connector also comes with MIDI in. The only downside I see is the size of the pedal, not an issue though if you have a big pedalboard or if you rig is minimal as the one used by Tom Morello.

Searching for more glitchy pedals, i've found that the Vox dynamic looper is great but, implies to use the looper for the majority of the great effects. Vox Delaylab enters in the "timestretching" zone using the Early reflections effect. Roland VT-3 can be used on guitar too, the "Scatter" effect does it more interesting. In the territory of microlooping like the Boss DD-5 does, the behringer's dd100 and dd40 can do it, Digitech Digidelay too, and may be a few more (EHX Canyon, DOD PDS series)... Boss PS3, Boss RV-3 and Marshall Echohead approaches to doing glitches/timestretching by tweaking knobs. Another interesting effect for soloing used by Adrian Belew, it can be achieved using a Digitech Harmonyman, but that idea was implemented later on the Digitech iStomp "Impossible pedal", i think it can be done with Behringer US600 and alikes (Ricochet may be). On the other hand i found interesting some racks, like Boss SE70, Roland SRV 3030/330, Digitech IPS33B, Alesis Quadraverb, Lexicon Vortex, and Yamaha's A3000 (this is really great)/4000/5000, may be Ensoniq DP-4 and Sony DPSV77 has potential for glitching and ambient generators. And for Bitcrushing Alesis Ineko, Mooer Lofimachine, Dedao Pixel can do it greatly. And for weird envelopes Digitech Synth wah, EHX Tube zipper, Subdecay Noise box are really special. In another investigation i've found that the Korg SQ-1 works really great for glitches like Autechre does, in combination with Boss RPS-10/RSD-10, may be Marshall Echohead, Boss PS-2, and Boss DSD-2/3, or Line6 M5. Aside all the mentions, Digitech Turbo flange, Digitech RP360XP, Catalinbread Csidman, Boss GT-001, EHX Hazarai, Mooer Reverie chorus, EHX Flanger hoax, Line6 Dr Distorto can create super wild noisy and stuttery textures, but i'm trying not to mention boutique stuff.

The Boss DD200 is a really good delay that covers all the bases, though it's a bit big, mine didn't stay because the Echorec emulation only managed 3 playback heads. You could have a look at my favorite delay the Boonar (from Dawner Prince) though with the swell up it gives a fantastic wash across everything (but maybe a little too 1986 for your needs)

I know there is a lot of pedals to get dual delays, delay and reverb and modulation. But as for now, only the ms70cdr, in compact pedal size, has modulation, reverb and delay, in one pedal, at least the only one I know. Please tell me if you know other options just for me to consider. If not, than I will definitely buy the ms70cdr. Thank you!

I've tried a couple Klon Centaur clones, and they just don't sound good in my setup. The first one I got was a straight Chinese bootleg, so I assumed that was why it didn't sound very good. So then I got a different one that people assured me was accurate to the real circuit, and it sounded more or less the same as the bootleg pedal. I don't think it's the pedal's fault, per se, I think it's just something about my rig or how I play that the pedal just isn't working for me.

Anyone looking for (or trying to decide between) the Zoom MS series pedals might want to instead try to see if they can find a used MS-100BT at a good price instead. The MS-100BT came out at the same time as the others but was the 'deluxe' version and had the largest amount and variety of included effects in addition to the ability to purchase and add new ones via USB or a bluetooth phone/tablet app. I spent more than a few dollars loading mine up with additional sounds (ok, fine, there is already an Echoplex model that comes standard in the MS-100BT, but there's another, slightly different one in the store as well. Clearly I needed both). The additional effects were not expensive (if I remember correctly, $1US for effects and either $2 or $3US for amp models) but the best part is that when they discontinued the MS-100BT they made all of the additional effects free of charge so you can now just load up whatever you want. Also, the MS-100BT has stereo inputs and outputs and (I believe) the largest memory capacity of the MS series. Of course, if you cannot find one on the used market then the MS-70CDR is an excellent choice when paired with the secret software mentioned at the end of the video. You will most likely not mistake the sound of the Zoom MS series with the equipment that it emulates if you put them side by side with the originals and A/B them in a controlled environment but in a loud club, concert hall or even rehearsal at full volume (or, alternately, in a full mix if you are using it for recording) you will almost certainly not be able to tell the difference and the average audience will not know the difference either (nor will most care).

Though it’s a tabletop unit, it does have all those “original” shoegaze sounds you discussed in the video - reverse, gate, and bloom reverbs with stereo capability - and it’s relatively small and light. (But you might not be interested in its dedicated power supply.) Regardless, I’m interested in your thoughts about it. Also, for pitchshifting delays, the new Eventide Micro Pitch might be an option for you.

We did a recording session at U of M not long ago with a percussionist that was incredibly fun with the Loomer--for instance, using a friction mallet on a timpani and sending it through both sides of the Loomer made an apocalyptic wall of sound like I'd never heard.

Great stuff. *hits subscribe* I dig your humor. I agree with the Vox Tonelab; great pedal but too big to be on my pedal board. I use a Boss TeraEcho for trails, a Sib Mr Echo for the warmth, Keeley Caverns 2 and Keeley Heinzman Trem o Verb. The Caverns has the shimmer reverb and delay...the Trem o Verb has the plate reverb and harmonic trem I like. My secret echo weapon is the Catalinbread Echo Rec. All of the Binson Echo Rec sounds and none of the costs and breakdown of analog tape. Shhh get one before it goes all Klon klowntown that is eBay. So yeah with currently multiple delays means no room for Vox even if it's sound is great. I am a collector so I'll use it in studio with double tracking some ambient harmony or counter point. I also agree with your take on the Loomer. It's not the greatest reverse swell but it's the fuzz that's just not to my taste. Way too muddy to my ears but if that's what ppl like...w/e. Also Not to my taste and got replaced: Sib Nick Nitro fuzz...replaced by Black Arts Tonework Pharoah Fuzz....then that replaced by Way Huge Fat Sandwich then...finally Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra. Boss SD1 gone...became a Waza Blues Driver BD2... now Jhs Boss Angry Driver. Jhs Ehx op Amp w/ It's the Great Smashing pumpkin/Charlie Brown eye mod (kidding)...gone Replaced with Jhs Moscow Mule modded EHX Green Russian big muff. Even EHX English muffin with actual tubes...just not to my liking. Jhs EHX soul food meat and potato mod replaced with JHS superbolt. So yeah it's a pattern and constantly changes. I'm a JHS fanboy here too. And running stereo is crucial to me with out wet dry set up into Roland JC 120 and Orange Dark terror into a 4x12 with Celestions. Six speakers of push that cannot compare to pc monitors. It's loud but that what attenuation is for. Cheers from Detroit... Where every day is a lost reverb trail... Into the dead city. Brian
