Effect of concentration on electrode potential values from www.ChemistryTuition.Net

www.chemistrytuition.net We look at how changes in concentration will alter the electrode potential values and the impact on the feasibility of the overall reaction. the theory and two examples are discussed

Would you recommend always forming an overall equation and then seeing the effect, as then its easy to see if the emf will increase or decrease, as if the equilibrium shifts to the right it will increase and vice versa.

I think it is probably easier to use the half equations rather than the full equation.

what if zinc electrode and Ag/AgCl/sat.KCl reference electrode were used in a half-cell set up and the concentration of Zn2+(aq) increases?

If you increase [Zn2+] then the equilibrium will always shift to the RHS and the Zn electrode becomes more positive.

What if you decrease the concentration. Would you say this favours formation of electrons so electrode potential is more negative?

Why would there be less electrons when zn2+ is increased? That part keep confusing me😭😭

Interesting question. Assuming they increase by the same amount, there should not be any change.
