Effect Audio Code24 & Code24C - Why Should You Spend $800 on Cable? - Honest Audiophile Impressions

Музыка

A BIG thank you to Effect Audio for providing the Code 24 and Code 24C cables for review, much appreciated. IEM cables come in all sorts of configurations, wide range of prices, wild claims about performance and lots of skeptitcism. How do the new Effect Audio perform? Worth the hefty price tag?

800 bucks for minor improvements is a lot. I agree, cables can make a difference regarding the changes you mentioned, as well as slightly improved imaging / separation. If it's worth the expense is only up to the user. The most I've spent on a headphone cable is 250, and I doubt I'll do it again.

My two cents, which isn’t much, but I believe the only perceived differences your average audiophile can hear between cables come from the metal in the wires (silver, copper, SPC, etc) but even with that, the difference are subtle at best. However, when you start getting into these unique cable topographies, casing materials, fancy splitters, special weaves, etc, I just don’t think it’s really worth the additional costs this adds on. I think the important thing to understand about cables (and IEMs if were honest) is that they don’t give you some kind of insight into the actual sound of the recording or an “artist’s intent” of the music. It just gives you a “flavor” of the music that you can either like or dislike, assuming one can hear any differences. Some people like the sound of copper, some like silver. Neither one is right or wrong. It just is. Lastly, and we as audiophiles may not admit this, but sometimes you buy a cable because you like how it looks. Nothing wrong with that. I personally like the look of the cables that come with the Letshouer S12 series. I own four sets of those cables. I just like them! No shame here. 😊

Happy Friday and thanks for the review, Dave! I do believe that cables can enhance the sound where you need it and how some pair better with certain IEMs than others (i.e. planar versus DD versus BA). Having said this, cable choice is certainly not as important as finding ear tips to create that perfect seal for your ear canal, in the area of IEMs. You know what I am most interested in seeing and something I think would help us consumers make more informed decisions? I'd like to see cable manufacturer's post more information besides just the cable material makeup such as the cable's resistance, conductance, and even what type of solder they use to connect to the terminations (or if they are fused via welding). I dunno, maybe am different in that regard of how deeply I look into these details, but it'd be nice for companies out there to have more transparency. I am glad that there are some audiophiles out there in our community that have taken the time to measure and post this (and other) data to help me and others who are also keen on seeing this info. Have a good weekend everyone! 🎶

Another great content and review Dave totally agree with your points on the cables and it can be subjective, yes I do agree with you the replacement cables do change the IEMS sonicly but not a whole lot, I several cables and I changed from stock to replacement the reason is aesthetically and have a blessed, wonderful, great, positive, productive, peaceful and safe weekend and God bless

I had similar experience with Cables to yours with similar sonic impressions of material used. I have only tried Cables in the price range of Effect Audio Signature series like Cadmus, Eros S... so I don't know about the more expensive Cables but there was a difference with Cables. I actually sold those Cables to fund some IEM purchases just cause of how little the change in sound was. I'll probably invest in Cables again in the future once I have a solid set of IEMs but for now, some less expensive Cables from Hakugei, EarAudio... seem like the best value for me.

I think that if you have a $5k IEM or headphone, then these cables are worth to you because the level of your gear already demands the best. Just like a $35 cable is worth buying for my IEMs, someone can point out that you can basically get a complete IEM with a cable, eartips and even a soft protective pouch at $25. So we go and go and go as our level rise, what was once unthinkable pricewise becomes a norm. Someone can always buy stuff they think is more important with money we play with for the hobby. Thanks Dave.

A lot of the differences from a stock cable is the build, look, feel and connection. Sonics tend to be subtle or non-existent in a lot of cables.

  • @777zekepitargue3

For me the difference is very very small about 1 to 3 percent difference from the standard cable. Not significant. However if the small difference in sound means a lot to you, and you are willing to spend money on it, Then no one should stop you to be happy ! This is also my attitude towards IEM's that are more than $500. For me anything above that is just 15 to 20 percent difference. But if I get the money I will buy the Empire Ears Raven even though its only better than the Monarch Mk3 at most 20 percent, because that small difference for me is a lot in my musical experience.

I can definitely hear a difference going from copper to silver or solver plated copper, although slight, there is a difference. But...I cannot hear the difference between cheap cables and "good" cables. My frame of reference only extends to the $50 mark, so I guess "maybe" I would hear a difference if I tried a $800 cable vs a $20 cable, but I would never spend that much on a cable just to see if there is a difference. I do believe you, but unless it's a dramatic difference, I can see no point in paying that much for a cable.

Hey Dave I have another Q for you ( I had asked you about the Oriveti oh700vb). Did you try either of these cables out on the 700vb? As you know I ended up purchasing that set and love it. I own the Code 23 and initially bought it to pair with my Xenns Up and it was sort of overly warm so I tried it on my Sa6 Ultra and wow, what a match. So I know improved sonics is a real thing. Filled in the dynamics, increased the impact, as well as improved the soundstage, I got lucky. Not sure if I'll get lucky again so wanted to check with you just in case. the other cable I'm thinking about is the Cadmus 8W. The Oriveti sounds great as is but.....well you know. Thanks in advance.
