EFF Josephine Mokwele Don't Respect Afrikaans

Watching Parliament made easy! My Africa Brings you all the scenes you really want to watch!
Newsworthy, interesting and the funny parts MINUS the boring rest of a long Parliament sitting.
Parliament of South Africa - “To represent the people, and to ensure government by the people in fulfilling our constitutional functions of passing laws and overseeing executive action”. This language issue is now making Parliament becoming a circus?
Watch EFF MP Ms Tebogo Josephine Mokwele telling Parliament that Afrikaans is a "Very Disturbing Language".
Chief Whip Floyd Shivambu please call your new MP to order! *****
The Constitution affords all South Africans the right to see and hear what happens in Parliament.
For the last 7 years and for the benefit of subscribers and the community “My Africa” search for sequences that are newsworthy, interesting, funny etc. From a, sometimes long and boring, Parliament sitting allowing the community the opportunity to choose which sequence they find interesting and want to watch.
As a result “My Africa” adds significant value to those effected by the exceptionally high cost of Data and Pay TV.
Also “My Africa” allows the community to comment and contribute to discussions in a meaningful manner and take stories forward.
However, we will NOT condone the following:
- Racism (including offensive comments based on ethnicity and nationality)
- Sexism
- Homophobia
- Religious intolerance
- Cyber bullying
- Hate speech
- Derogatory language
- Comments inciting violence.
We strive to make the KZread community a safe and welcoming space for all.

It's not an issue of language. It's a matter of wasting time and shifting attention from the matters of corruption. However; it must be acknowledged that the translation devices should consist of more than just English and Afrikaans. This gross lack of langauge assistance will just lead to communication difficulties. And it's clear everyone here needs all the help they can get.

This undermines the Africans and I truly understand why you don't see it because the system has made us desensitized to this issue. It makes no sense that you go to a police station to make an affidavit and they want to write it in English in a township.

She called Afrikaans an "understepping language". The English dude said that as 11 languages are official and with equal status, that was inappropriate. She then goes to say she doesn't respect, on the basis that neither speak each others languages. In the end, it became a lost in translation kinda thing, with a kick of historical animosity. Not gratuitous, but could have been addressed in a different way. The issue was lack of translators, not historical oppression (at that moment).

Come on Black people. Let's allow Afrikaners to speak their language and use it whenever or however they feel like. We have our own languages to do the same to. It is important to stick, use and promote your language. We don't seem to understand that. When people are using theirs we complain because we don't have an understanding of how important one's language is. Still now, after 25 years of freedom from apartheid and the colonialisation, we don't have an answer to the language question. We will only understand why Afrikaners are so proud and defensive of Afrikaans when we have come up with an answer to the language question that we keep sweeping under the carpet despite it constantly haunting us.

Even though I am an Afrikaans-speaking person, I strongly disagree with the use of Afrikaans in parliament. From a practical standpoint, it just doesn't make any sense - not everyone in parliament understands Afrikaans, just like everyone doesn't understand Zulu, Xhosa, or Sotho. So therefore, insisting on speaking Afrikaans despite it not being universally understood is extremely inconsiderate and rude to other members of parliament.

How is it that white and Indian South Africans can be satisfied with only knowing English? Before schools offer French, Spanish, Greek, or whatever, they must start at home. If a white honourable member stood up and said "I do not respect isiXhosa/isiZulu/seSotho..." that member would be howled at by the black honourable members. We cannot have double standards. Afrikaans is part of the 11 Official Languages. I do not speak Afrikaans, nor am I interested in it, but I have no reason or right to disrespect it. As umntu that is not Zulu, do I have the right to say "Andis'funi isiZulu." Also, what message is she sending to millions of viewers and listeners? Soon, black people will have a negative outlook towards ALL Afrikaners, which will solidify the negative stance soooome Afrikaans people have against abantu abamnyama, and where will lead to after that? Unnecessary racial wars (the most extreme outcome). We don't have to llike each other, kodwa ke noko masihloniphane.

Tbh english should only be spoken, no other languages should be spoken because it will be too complicated and people will get pissed off. On the point of ‘respecting’ the language, its understandable why people wouldn’t respect afrikans, yes it is the language spoken of previous oppressors so of course there will be hard feelings, but then again the english oppressed us too and here we are speaking majority english. So its fine to get angry at someone speaking in a language you don’t understand but don’t simply disrespect a language because of its past, otherwise we wouldn’t respect 90% of language in the world.

@Porter Maxwell We don't differentiate our African family into categories like Khoi, San or Bantu when we talk to foreigners like you, since we are all indigenous Southern African people, unlike the Dutch-French-German descendant foreigners and wannabe "Afrikaners", who are clearly of Western Germanic and Gallic ancestry, not African. So please do us all a favour and stop appropriating our African identity and culture! You are obviously uneducated and delusional if you never heard of Mapungubwe, which was built by Bantus by the way and is situated in South Africa. Also, most people that you refer to as Bantu in South Africa have in fact also Khoisan ancestry. Especially the Tswanas who heavily intermarried with Kalahari San people and the Xhosas and Sothos who intermarried with Khoe Khoe fleeing the Trek Boers and finding refuge within those communities, where they assimilated into. That's why you find many Black South Africans with Khoisan features (slim and muscular built, pepper corn hair, smaller eye folds, lighter yellowish skin hue etcetera). Even the most famous Black South African, Mr Nelson Mandela, was a Griqua descendant and therefore partially Khoisan. That's not unusual at all. I recommend you the article that was released in the renown Nature journal by the title "Complete Khoisan and Bantu genomes from southern Africa". They've done genetic testing on various South African individuals and studied their entire genome. One of the participants was Desmond Tutu. He was surprised to learn that he also had Khoisan ancestors, that he wasn't aware of. That's true for many Black South Africans. Most are not even aware that they have ancient Khoisan ancestry. Yet it's so obvious, otherwise we would look the same like Congolese or other other Bantu people, who have no Khoisan admixture, but we have distinct South Africa features due to the mix with Khoisan. We are a mixed population, like the British who are mixed between Germanic Anglo-Saxons, Celtic and Roman Latins. Then there is also ancient admixture betweem the groups, since

The problem extends to other forms of media such as jurisprudrence or texts designated for schools or workplaces, where the default is English and Afrikaans; indeed, there are some documents where African languages are espoused with the same fidelity as Afrikaans but this is the exception.

"democratic right to disrespect" a language. What bullshit. No matter how some boeres may disrespect your language, not all Afrikaners disrespect it, and it is entitled to think it's your right to discriminate. If it being the language of your abusers is the reason you will disrespect it, half of the world can disrespect the English language.

That's why 11 official languages don't work. The intention might be a good one, but it's never going to work in practice. So, I'd say just make English the official language with the rest having a sort of secondary position. Because English is an easy to learn language and all

You don't have to speak Afrikaans then shut up understanding and speaking Afrikaans is not for everybody only for the intellectual like who has a history and build and made the country a first world for those who cooses to take it back to dark ages will never understand the complexity.. just whant to say i can speak zulu and and i am proud of it it is a good thing to educate youself.. and so i will teach my children also to speak Zulu and any other language i can . Whiles you teach to hate steal rape murder and kill old people innocent unspected victims babys see who will get the furthest in life. Asshole uniformed hope you don't have children must be terrible to be brought up stupid people..

Lizette Zyl saying hello and just the basic good morning and how are you is not speaking it.. just saying 😂 and you speaking it is not amazing and it isn’t a favor. It is a must do because it’s a language your ancestors found here and in order for you to have conversations with Zulu speaking people you’d have to adjust to the language.
