    The "speech" Sylvie gave in response to Mobius wanting pie really bothered me. Not only is it ridiculous because the previous scene made clear the team is just waiting for the technobabble to be done, but this is the exact same woman that didn't want to leave her McDonalds job in the 1980s at the start of the season because she literally didn't care anymore... And Mobius isn't proposing they leave, its literally a moment of levity while they wait to go on their dangerous mission. No wonder this show doesn't make sense, the writers can't remember what happened two episodes ago, how on earth can they remember what happened two years ago. This must be why Sylvie is so insufferable, she's not a character, she's a McMuffin.

    In fairness, that only came about because of the combined genius of Tony and Ant Man. One of them is dead, and the other hasn’t been in a situation where he’d need to, and even if he were, they can fall on “I can’t do this without Tony.” Not great but honestly not the worst problem the MCU has. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Why he wouldn't look into his own life: he is a variant. The timeline he came for has been pruned. Why would anyone think it still exists to look into?

  • @unfilthy

    @unfilthy

    5 ай бұрын

    That's exactly what I said after the Brad episode, where he wrongly said that there were people left behind. No there weren't, they got pruned. They're acting like pruned timelines suddenly respawned as if nothing happened. But, of course, if timelines can be restored with everyone in them as if nothing happened, then they could just prune everything, fix whatever the loom is, and then restore all those timelines again. The whole thing is stupid.

  • @slaapt

    @slaapt

    5 ай бұрын

    Ehhhhhhh... Now that I had some time to think, which is probably more effort than I should have put into it... The TVA works across all of time. Which means that some of the pruning would happen in the subjective future from where the timeline started branching again (it would be cool to have a date for that. If it started branching all the way from the start, I want to know if the MCU happened in a branching or non-branching version of the universe). If those prunings now never happen, would that undo the destruction of the timeline? Would that make the variant a RikerClone of the version of him that never got pruned? Or is there still a "pruned" third version of the branch from a single event? Because either that happened, or the TVA agent needs to disappear in a grandfather paradox of epic proportions. Either uncountable trillions of people remain dead, or the TVA agent can't exist as (s)he never got taken for breaking the rules as the rules aren't enforced any longer.

    Out of all the stupid things in this season, the one thing that irks me the most is the Loom. This thing simply makes NO sense. What power did Kang pull out of his ass to create something that ensnares the space and time of ALL REALITY? HOW?! The power required for something like this is God-level. And also, you'd think the various gods of the Marvel universes would not stand for a mortal jeopardizing all of existence. The ONLY reason it exists is to turn Loki into the God of Stories or whatever the fuck. Which I have to ask, shouldn't that be the One Above All's (God's) job?

    technically it wasn't, it is much smaller than earth and just moved to the surface before emerging. However, the earth exploding as shown by Arishem in his visualization of it is an entirely separate process that just happens, so killing Tiamut shouldn't have stopped that, and even if it did, the earth would be badly off in multiple ways due to all the mass Tiamut would be displacing moving from the core to the surface, plus extending beyond the clouds, that much of him sticking out would likely slow earth's rotation

    I think Loki is an example of how fandom actually poisons the legacy of characters when the primary fandom exists outside of the core demographic - Loki was beloved by tumblr girls for being le evil effeminate heartthrob, so as soon as anyone from that fandom culture had creative control, they of course co-opted him as their ideal version of a character someone else made. Hell, it doesn't even have to be someone with creative control; enough marketing influences, which we know media marketing in general to already primarily seek opinions from that core demo due to city-slicker cultural bias, will lead to the selfsame outcome, nice-boy Loki put down by girlboss self-insert designed to be brave but not conventionally attractive enough to be isolating for that very specific alt-nerd girl audienxe.

    In absolute fairness to the writers, it was pretty clear in context that what Loki meant was “Slyvie, you wanted to free the universe from the TVA railroading history, but doing that means reality is about to collapse under its own weight from the multiverse growing out of control. You have a responsibility to save existence itself from the consequence of your actions and put the multiverse in a stable safe condition, because liberation means nothing if it results in immediate death.” Its badly conveyed because Sylvie is a Mary Sue and pacing no longer exists, but it’s the closest anyone is allowed to get to criticizing her so I’ll take it.

    Johnathan playing Kang feels like the cool guy jock trying to pretend to be the weird eccentric nerd having absolutely never even approached the feeling of lacking confidence. It’s kind of a tragic backfire of crafting a charismatic public persona as an actor, like be probably has. He’s just doesn’t know what it’s like to be a little more timid, less assured and nervous. I mean he’s literally paid to convincingly act like other people so it’s failure on his part but it does also suggest miscasting. He does not have the range to play both Kang the conqueror and Timely.

Though I will say that it can be "patched" by showing how those people given bending develop over time, so the transition from those given the abillity to those born with it and having to learn to use it, if that makes sense. Though that hasn't happened so its kind of just cope:(

    @@arvatrontheiv2220I look at it as the world went from even having the possibility to bend, to not having it. It’s like we had exactly a 0% chance to be able to figure out bending before Lion Turtles. Then Lion Turtles came along and now we had a possibility. There was absolutely no way the avatar would have come about without the Lion Turtles giving him the elements. There is no middle ground anymore. Loki is similar. It started out declaring “all the choices and stakes that have gotten our show to this point? Yeah they’ve all been approved by this mythical organization that exists outside of time and space”. I either have to completely pretend Korra and the TVA don’t exist, or have to grapple with the fact that all the stakes of the MCU and ALTA were completely shat on.

It really didn't seem like they were gonna work with either side. Or, why didn't they pretend to agree to work with her so they can get out, armed themselves and then betray her when they get the chance. Also, what reason did Brad have to continue working with the evil ladies once the clock got turned off? Like, he's the one that's armed, i don't see why he wouldn't turn on her. Hell, he might take issue with her killing the other prisoners. Or he could just run away. I could even see the Lokis just asking him to help them because he's just some dude (called Brad) who was forced into working for the evil lady, skipping the whole mind control part which just makes the whole part confusing.

    What the fuck does the TVA even do now? I mean… really, what do they do all day? Like, we see people walking around like it’s an office as if it was business as usual back in S1. There, it made sense - bear with me - there was so much movement in the background because our plot with Loki and Mobius was only one tiny part of this vast organisation with millions of people doing the same. But that’s gone now. The TVA doesn’t melt people anymore, apparently they go out of their way to stop people doing that… so what are they doing? What are people typing about on their computers? What are people walking around for, where are they hoping to go and what are they trying to do? Are they just doing menial bureaucratic work for the sake of doing it because there’s literally nothing else to do? I really can’t imagine a more dystopian hell than that for eternity.

    It’s because they spend way more money per episode than typical TV shows. In other cases if it happens without huge CG budgets, it’s probably because they just want “content” and aren’t willing to invest in case a show doesn’t hit it off. Or not to whatever their standards are. This was a problem before streaming was ubiquitous too. A ton of shows would get a debut season in the Fall with 12-24 episodes, and be cancelled before the next Fall.

    So... another question. Variants are created when the timeline splits. Basically every version of a person on a different timeline is a variant. The only reason the TVA variants are special is because they are the only survivors of their own timeline. But then explain Timely. If he is a Kang Variant, then every single Kang was born somewhere in the 1800s. Because they need to have been inevitable at some point in a split. Anything else wouldn't have created Kang, like if say another little swimmer fertilised the egg, or another egg detached, it would have been a different person that was born. So either all the Kangs created time and multiverse travel with 1800s tech, or there are universes which are thousands of years ahead of us. But then why could Timely create the loom? Why is he "He Who Remains" if the rest has an insane technological, industrial, and logistical advantage over him? Why does nothing here make sense? And to think they could have prevented this by grabbing him from the future...

  • @slaapt

    So Ravonna was more of the architect than Kang and more ruthless than Loki. Gotta love it.

    Kang has officially died a pathetic death in everything he has appeared in thus far

    Meanwhile, to be fair, Ravenna is sometimes regarded as a serious general in the main comics canon (whatever that's worth now). Kang's still the overlord, but he can't do everything himself everywhere (mainly because his different versions like to compete against each other). So he's okay with delegating.

    It's always surreal to see this stuff after listening to reviews and realizing just how bad it actually is. Its one thing to have someone say characters make bad and nonsensical decisions and list a few examples, and quite another ro watch it happening one after the other in the story.
