    Saw 2 starts to get iffy when it comes to Jigsaw's targets for his games, but 3 completely obliterates it with the whole "witness that didn't show up/driver who clearly got convicted and regrets his crime" stuff. At least in Saw 1 the motivations were "I have very little time left, I hate seeing people take life for granted when they have it so much better than me" and proceeds to "help" them - as he sees it - in a warped and insane way.

  • @ProfessorHeavy1

    I have such a huge love/hate relationship with that. I love that it makes sense and that it plays on the will to live despite insurmountable odds, but hate that the criteria to be there in the sequels was so basic ("you smoked? die") and that some of the traps are far more difficult to survive and live than others for the sake of a gorefest. There's a difference between the twisted nature of Kramer's philosophy in the first film, and what that philosophy turned into later.

    thats mostly due to the writing, saw 1 set standard to having a test of an ending, so all the other films needed to make a twist. it was writers not that good, to make a twist, that instead they have to now go back in time to twist characters for the twist. like your gonna watch saw 4 or 5, and realize why amanda acts the way she does, which than retroactively fixes saw 3 but then you needed to watch 6 for it to make sense of saw 3, and saw 7 to make sense of saw 4, etc... it became a franchise that had to constantly retcon and re retcon things to keep it going, saw's final trap is watching the writers pretzel themselves to write a new movie...

Give them time to figure out their respective trap so that they have tie to appreciate fighting for their life and actually have a chance to make it out alive. Otherwise your going to a have a bunch of dead probably depressed people who died because they couldn’t accurately play greensleeves on a harmonica while their hands are being dug into my razor blades while they hang upside down.

    Transformers would work really well for this type of weekly watchalong. It's funnier and gets more and more insane plus the latest movie is out. It would provide for more commentary and funnier moments. Horror franchises can get a bit dry in big spaces in between the intro and finale. Longer franchises just have a lot of films that don't provide for a lot of comedy or enjoyment. But this is just a suggestion.

    The problem with Saw films after the first one is that the ideas got better, but the execution has gotten worse. _Saw 1:_ 2 guys in a room trying to figure out how to escape an unbelievably messed up situation. Executed really well. _Saw 2:_ Bunch of people, most of whom have reasons to hate each other, given a choice to work together or fight among themselves and die. Executed poorly. _Saw 3:_ A guy is given a series of moral quandaries. But they made the guy a legitimately bad person, which is actually the worst thing they could've done. Atrocious execution.

    Saw 1 is not executed really well. It is a simple idea and because off that it may appear more well made at first, but if you really look at it there is a ton of tism even in that one, most of that is admittedly from the stuff outside the room (cops, other "games" and family abduction)

  • @Nick46289

    @Nick46289

    9 ай бұрын

    @@theraven268 "The room" is just objectively executed better than "the house" and "the... Jeff". The two guys are talking to each other. They figure stuff out. We get to actually know them, somewhat. Imagine if they were just hysterical the entire time, like in the other parts. Like the photographer guy was at the beginning, except that's the entire thing. And nothing gets done, and the doctor's family gets shot, and then Jiggy just gets up and goes "you really suck. Game over". That's what other movies feel like, compared to the first one.
