The new Keysight/Agilent 3000T Oscilloscope is released today, and Dave has a world first review of it.
It's a replacement for the existing 3000A X-Series, and is essentially the same in many ways, so only the differences are
covered in this video.
A lot of features from the 4000 X-Series have filtered down, and some things are now standard.
How does it compare to the Tektronix MDO3000?

The touch screen is an excellent implementation and kudos for that. The sizing, response and touch are well done. But just like colors and brightness, there should be an adjustment for touch sensitivity. We're in winter and I've had time with much too sensitive behavior. Makes it difficult to move toward a button without premature activation. Touch alignment hasn't been needed. Features are large enough so any slight aging doesn't matter.

The user interface with step by step description in a "pro" measurement tool. Show how much the ease of use is now a key factor to sells. Usually such feature is an "option package" in industrial world. Nice review btw

I see the touchscreen isn't quite as fingerprint resistant as it could be... The shot of it tilted at about 35 mins shows them up clearly. The display on the touch version appeared a bit higher contrast and clearer, at least on here anyway, perhaps Dave could comment on that?

Keysight have also release a quite time back new scope with 10bit ADC and 20GS/s. They should give you the scope so you do a review on them! Though I think think they are a little too much advanced for you. Good video by the way. You could have add the teardown to this vide as a completly teardown would be annoying as I think the hardware are completly the same!

Hi. Would it be possible to demonstrate these scopes triggering on television waveforms (real life stuff) as we are finding it very difficult to find a replacement scopes for our analogue Teks and Flukes that have a proper TV trigger functionality, without taking half an hour to get the thing to trigger! and if your looking for a signal that may or may not be there, very difficult. I have looked at one of these scopes and was extremely disappointed that you have no ground input facility! I know this is a bit of an issue with ADC's as you could be out of range but rather strange? This is a button that I use 3rd in line with voltage range and timebase speed so somewhat disappoint at the loss of this function.

I wonder, can those oscilloscopes be overclocked for better performance? For the price they charge, it should include a Core i7 4790K, a decent PCI - express SSD, in addition to a better ASIC, in addition to 802.11ac 4 stream, and 10 gigabit Ethernet (and a bunch of eSATA ports, and a bunch of server functions so that you can get your ESXi on while probing stuff) just for the hell of it.

Wow, from the title I thought you would be reviewing a cheap chinese oscilloscope. I didn't know Agilent was renamed to Keysight. Keysight? Really?! It sounds like your typical chinese brand, where they slap two random words together. I don't think I'll ever be in the position to buy a top scope like this, but at least they implement features that drag the whole market up, even the low end. So I hope that namechange doesn't hurt them, because then in a few years those features will have trickled to entry level scopes.

Couple months ago I learned that it's not new cheap generic brand when going through Farnell's e-shop, that was big surprise for me. Responding in 2024 ... no change at all. These scopes are Windows CE and Linux based (new EDU series). There should be brightness, color control, palettes, etc. They are all for the taking. It would require a little bit of extra code. 10 years since introduction. But, the playing field is level and probably why nothing changes.

You missed the point. I've used their gear for decades and hold it in high regard for its quality. The point is that the whole market is overpriced. 5 GS/s is now easy and done using commodity parts. The market will adjust. I've delivered very complex embedded systems so I get that there needs to be good ROI to cover R&D costs but it's artificially high now so will adjust IMHO. I'd like to be Mr Rigol right now.

Boring, no, insulting memory depth has not changed, nor has the display resolution. Very sad, to advancement at all. I'm still in love with the 3000T because it checks all the boxes for me but Keysight needs to move this line forward, unless they've resigned to Rigol and Siglent on low end scopes. So, 9 years later and the cow is still in for milking.

I work at a fortune-5 company and I would have a hard time justifying $13,900 scope in the embedded space I work in. I like Dave's reviews but these super high end gear, I have to wonder who his audience really is here. I'm guessing Keysight gave or loaned him this gear to showcase it as a marketing stunt for those of us watching his channel and also work in an industry where we may have purchasing influence. So I really have to ask: Who's buying these things?

If 14K$ for a medium end scope is too much for your company, then, sorry buddy but there is something wrong with them. If you have some serious business going on and you need some thrustworthy equipment you can be using full time, then it's gonna be the price for it. Moreover, according to their MTBF, putting your money in some tech like has to be seen as an investment. This scope isn't going to be obsolete by tomorrow... If you're scared for the price of the scope, don't look at the price for active probes of some competitors. Some almost reach 10K$ a piece in some cases.

  • @revealingfacts4all

Dude, stifle you're assuming dialog and stop putting words in my mouth. I never claimed it was too much for the company nor was I afraid of the price and you appear to have no experience working in a large company. When you buy something this expensive it goes through a purchasing department who will then call the company to negotiate a price but before that happens, most large companies have budget centers where you need to justify the need. Hence the reason I asked: who is buying these things? Where I work, we are a Tektronix shop with some of equipment well into the $100K range but do those people watch Dave's videos? Again, who is buying these things that watch Dave's channel? For what I do in my home lab there is no way I, personally, could afford this scope. I might recommend it within the organization I work but I really doubt my peon roll in the company would carry enough weight to influence a purchasing decision.

InXLsisDeo Not a fair comparison. TopGear has large budget. Ever watch or subscribe to Consumer reports? CR never takes any gifts, loaners, etc... They buy everything so their opinion is credible & unbiased. Dave's review of an expensive scope only large companies can afford is dubious especially when the review is so glowing. I know the facts can be checked, but he promotes himself as an unbiased mouth piece. I'm not trying to be a troll here but I really wonder why he reviews such expensive equipment knowing this is his full time job. He must monetize his youtube channel to make ends meet, right? So he needs to continue to receive equipment to review. No company wants bad press either. So this, for me, draws his true intentions & motivations a bit into question for me and from other comments, it seems others question it too. I would much rather he stick to hobby level price ranges but, hey, that's just me. Did I enjoy the review? Of course. It was well done.

I hate there new name, simply does not roll of the tongue and does not sound as badass (industry term XP ) "i have a keysight 3000T" "i have an agulant 3000T" just sounds better

***** i never said it takes from the scope, but by them simply not changing there name they would get much more brand recognition its similar to "i got the new BMW" vs "i got the new dodge" ... one simply sounds better, impresses people more and something you're more likely to show off even if they're the same car (not trying to compare BMW to dodge)

Agilent has been talking up the Keysight name for quite some time. Anyone who's in the know, knows Keysight is an Agilent product. The last conference I went to made sure to make the distinction and provided us with a ton of Keysight swag to drive it home. So there's no loss, anyone who is in Agilent's customer base is already well aware. Those of us who are looking at these products have nothing to show off or impress... we're doing work.

Eyebrows Mahoney +1 Agilent has been mentioning that some of their test equipment products will be separated and renamed Keysight probably over a year ago if I'm not wrong. Folks in the business have been aware of this for long now and they don't need a badass name, just some good specs they can trust. BTW, Great Video Dave but you should check out Lecroy oscilloscopes. They have some very good equipment too and the touchscreen function is something they have for at least two years already in some of their models ... You should really ask for demo products (from experience, they have a pretty nice commercial mindset).

You can now buy virtually NOTHING for this model. Case parts, display, touch screen, power supply and just about every part needs to go in for SERVICE to get a stinking little part. Please help to shame Keysight into changing this parts policy. It's ridiculous.

Keysight...really...someone tell me this is a joke. Geesh, talk about bad ideas. Didn't anyone tell them that people really like to make stupid decisions and buy things based on names? I thought this was a Chinese ripoff or something.
