Eestimaa mu isamaa-Anthem of vaps movement

Vaps movment was nationalist political movement made of veterans of the estonian independence war. They were prognosed to win the 1934 elections, but after Päts' coup they were made illegal. Later the praticipants of the coup surrendered Estonia without fight to USSR.

Great song! Easy to sing for a Finn. Artur Sirk, Vaps leader, was buried in Helsinki with Finnish flag covering his coffin after he was assasinated, or "suicide" like it was told in Luxemburg. You probably knew this already :D Have a nice day!

@@vaps5662 That's great to hear! If you visit Helsinki, go to Hietaniemi cemetery to visit his grave. Few other estonians are buried there aswell, for example capt. Herman Treial, professor August Tammekann, musician Robert Kalbek and industrialist Eduard Puhk.

PolPol (Estonian political police) probably. He was writing a book about Päts which disappered from his room. The examinations in Luxembourg and Finland about his body were very different from eachother. In Finland they found no broken bones from his body, but instead found leftovers from arsen.

Great channel! Just wondering, has there been a resurgence of the Vaps movement in Estonia after independence? And how do normal Estonian people see the Vapsid/Päts now?

When I lived in Estonia in the 1990's many Estonians viewed the VAPS as Patriots who were maligned "Set Up". Which they actually were smeared with the branding of being of the "cut of Nazi's". Had Mr. Artur Sirk become the Estonian President the outcome of the horrendous arbitary events of 1939- 1940 which led to the self destruction of the Estonian government and nation most likely would have had a different outcome probably similar to the Finnish 1939 response to Soviet terroristic demands. Many viewed Pats as he was a naive Dictator with a paradox. Who on one hand helped give birth to the nation and later on the other hand help kill the nation. I find it is more amongst the older expat Estonian community's abroad outside of Estonia who seem to blindly worship Pats and completely overlook Pats horrendous actions which many consider illegal and treasonous.

@@MrKaido93 That's really interesting actually - especially about the expats. And yeah agreed, even though Estonia probably would have lost in a war against the Soviets in 1939-40 (unlike Estonia, the Finns had winter on their side, which reduced Red Army logistics and maneuverability to an absolute minimum), the outcome could hardly have been worse for the Estonian people if they had have fought. I think the best example of Pats' naivity was him thinking Estonia would be treated leniently by Stalin if it just rolled over without a fight - which obviously was never going to be the case.
