Hadn't revamped my home network in over 6 years and I was looking on the Eeros coupled with pfSense, but deciding on the Pro or Pro 6E, given that it's new technology and I yet to have a single 6E device at home it seems the Pro is the way to go. Very informative and professionally done. Great job!

Eero seems to have really dropped the ball on the pro 6e release. Would have expected both ports to support 2 gigabits at the minimal. Doesn't help that the cheaper model ended up beating it in some tests. Most likely buggy drivers? Was looking at an upgrade but will pass this year.

In another review I read, I believe it was CNET, it can and often does use the 6ghz for wireless backhaul. That said, they mentioned their 6E wifi devices seldom connected to the 6ghz band. There apparently isn't a way to force a connection to 6E. I currently have the Pro 6 and have gigabit fibre (my ISP, Frontier, provided the Pro 6 2 pack for free as part of a promotion here in the Tampa, FL area). So this still doesn’t help with Virgin Hub 5 in modem mode and getting the 1.1gbps wired speed separate to all other devices as the Eero would have to be linked to the Hub 5 on the 2.5gbps port. I recently got the Hub 5 and disconnected my Eero Pro 6 and switch setup to just try the Hub 5, seem to have further reach and finally the full 1.1gbps speed using the 2.5gb port up to my pc upstairs but Wi-Fi speeds everywhere else have roughly dropped by around 100mbps. Best wired speed I had before was about 940mbps as we know the Hub 4 is limited to. So it’s pros and cons. What I don’t understand is as others have said why there’s not 2x 2.5gb ports? I guess it’s just too expensive at the moment.

I don't, for the most part the default settings are optimized and should be good for most people. You can customize a few things like DHCP but the eero is really designed for simplicity

Thank you. So basically no hurry to upgrade. I was hoping the 6E would use the 6GHz radio for wireless backhaul as it's less congested but seems like it provides no significant improvements.

It got some updates a while later and it was better after I tested it a while later. I think it was in this comparison video that I retested it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/moJhss5maaixcZs.html But again the Pro 6 is pretty good as it is. If you want something better, check out the ASUS XT9 or especially the Deco BE63, those will have improvements over the Pro 6 and Pro 6E.

@@landpet I'm just comparing the wireless backhaul configuration because that's the most relevant use-case for me. I assume 'Wireless Backhaul' meant you conducted the speed test near the 2nd eero node that's wirelessly connected to the gateway? How far do you place the eeros apart? In this video, the Pro 6E achieved 497down 475up and in the more recent video, it achieved 846down 918up. That's quite an improvement, is that an accurate depiction of everyday usage though? I know my Pro 6 system fluctuate quite a lot.

Just remember, when the 6 Pro first came out, people kept saying negative things about it too. Unless there's a hardware issue with the 6E (which I don't believe anyone has found), or I expect it to get better as time goes on and the firmware gets updated.

On the other side of those walls. When I first got eero pros I was loving the Wi-Fi. Then I installed the cameras and half of them barely worked. So I ended up with an obscene amount of eero routers lol oh and I just got ring alarm pro so there’s another one. But otherwise they were all the original eeros.
