Edward Snowden wants to come home but says U.S. won’t give him a fair trial

Former NSA contractor Edward Snowden is shedding new light on his decision to reveal classified documents about the U.S. government's mass surveillance program. In 2013, Snowden disclosed government programs that collected Americans' emails, phone calls and internet activity in the name of national security. The U.S. government charged Snowden under the Espionage Act for his actions. A congressional report said his disclosures "caused tremendous damage to national security." In his new memoir, "Permanent Record,” Snowden tells his story in detail for the first time and speaks about his life in exile in russia. Snowden, who now identifies himself as a privacy advocate, spoke with "CBS This Morning" in an exclusive U.S. TV interview. It’s edited only for satellite delays, but not for editorial content.

Hmm. I respectfully disagree. He didn’t divert the questions or start rambling. He stayed on topic, answered eloquently, and gave very thorough responses. It’s rare these days for interviewees to expel this much valuable information. American journalism is so adherent to sensationalism. They asked some very loaded questions and didn’t seem interested in the content of what he said, but rather, “what would appeal to the public the most?”. The essence of journalism should be to exchange information. Leave the sensationalism for Hollywood. Perhaps this is why podcasts have sparked in popularity...but I digress.

I'm actually surprised that CBS, a liberal news outlet, didn't give him a pass. Agree, she was probably "coached" from above to conduct a real interview, maybe under pressure from the government, I don't know. I thought she did a great job actually. Part of a reporter's job is to not let the interviewee ride roughshod over the topic, unchecked. She called him out on whether he should get to set the terms of his prosecution, for example. Snowden is an arrogant, smooth talker. I'm glad she called him out a few times. Decent reporting for a change.

The Federal Govt broke the law and this person blew the whistle on the govt for breaking that law. The Federal Govt is guilty of violating their own oath to the Constitution and this man followed the oath he swore to that same Constitution. How hard is that to understand people? The law of the land is the United States Constitution. When you violate that, you are considered a criminal. The Federal Govt being a us corporation, is considered an individual by the SCOTUS. In that line then, it follows the Federal Govt is guilty of crimes against the COnstitution and all this man did was bring the people proof of that law breaking.

@Jack Bradford Easy answer.. same reason no one will be found guilty of any crime during the 2016 election. Once they are removed from the office in which they broke the law, it takes multiple causes of legal action in order to prosecute them. For example, Former director Comey will not be found guilty of any crime because he will not be brought up on charges because he no longer works for the govt. The reason they are pushing so hard against Trump is they are doing everything to find some law he broke so he can be brought up on charges since he is still the sitting President. All the people who committed the actual crimes are gone. That includes Obama, Clinton, Comey, The former attorney general (can't recall her name) and the rest of the actors who we found thru text messages were actively spying and colluding with foreign govts to sway an election as well as after the elction were trying to invalidate the winner. IF you haven't noticed there are two distinct tiers of law enforcement and crime punishment in this country. There is one tier for all politicians thats republicans and democrats, and another tier for the rest of us aka the peons or the serfs or the slaves whatever you prefer. Without us and our labor which they take a piece they find is reasonable from us, there is no govt there is no political class there are no politicians. However they take that fact for granted because they have armed themselves so deep they know no matter how hard we fought we would be brought down eventually and brought to their justice no matter how faulty it may be. This is the world we live in and the world we all pay for so like it or not we are the reason for how we live. No doubt the govt has lost all control of itself but there is little any of us can do to stop it.
