Tbh, this is the first series I have seen that the children recognize each other as siblings. Most tv series it portrays that one family member sees another family member as a threat to the throne and they seek to annihilate that family member to "protect" their crown.

I think things were rather safe when their brother was alive. Since both girls had no right to the thrown with him alive. But most shows and movies skip over his short life to Marys rule or even after to Elizabeth's. So we don't get to see a time when they are not enemies.

All three had sad young lives. Mary had to see her mother cast aside, and herself declared a bastard. Once Henry separated Catalina and Mary she never saw her mother again. Elizabeth never knew her mother and was also declared a bastard. Then she had to deal with the Thomas Seymour situation and after Mary became queen she never could be sure if she would one day be take to the Tower and would never come out. Elizabeth and Mary’s relationship was always tense after Mary became queen. Mary was always kept suspicious that Elizabeth could be involved in a rebellion and the Catholic/Protestant issue was also a bone of contention. Elizabeth lived life on a tightrope until Mary died. Edward mother died several days after he was born and he was like a bone to his Seymour uncles and the other members of his Privy Council. Edward might be king, but he was pawn to those around him.

Eddie Seymour is relishing his position of power. KEVI should definitely be apprised of his destination. EdwardVI’s Uncle Eddie is insufferable and his attitude does not bode well for him. The Seymour’s were not an important family in the scheme of things. They never developed any powerful alliances, rather alienated heads of families and made implacable enemies. They were catapulted into a milieu many degrees above their comprehension due to their sister Jane’s marriage of KHVIII and her having produced an heir for England.

Don't forget Edward was 9 when he became King and quickly became a pawn between his two Seymour Uncles, Edward and Thomas, as they vied for the Lord Protector role. That is the person who essentially became a defacto King for the minor Edward. Ultimately both Uncles were executed and the new Regent, John Dudley, had the succession laws changed by Edward when it became clear that Edward was going to die young and not produce an heir. He had Edward name Jane Grey, a 1st cousin once removed from Edward as his successor, who also happened to be his daughter-in-law, thus making his son a King.

@@ButtonsCaseyFrom what I have read, Edward was constantly admonishing Mary for her adherence to the Roman Church. Mary, for her part, was fond of Elizabeth. That lasted till Mary became Queen. Then she flipped England back to the Roman Church and suspected Elizabeth of trying to take her crown.

Tbh they even say in ep 3 that they celebrate Elizabeth's 15th birthday, so they don't age her up in the series, they recognize her age. So I don't know why they didn't cast the actress according to that. Casting a 28-year-old actress, who doesn't look a day younger than 28, was a mistake imo, when at 28 Elizabeth had long been a ruling queen. All the other castings are so spot on, why fail with the main character of all people....

@@Ashbrash1998 Yeah, though they could have hired an actress aged 18. Bella Ramsey (Jane Grey in the series) was 18 when shooting the series but she convincingly played the little teenager Jane because she can easily look younger than 18. American high school dramas (Euphoria, etc) are full of 18+ content and they hire young 20ish looking actors to play them. Anyway, anyone younger than 28 would have been better than a 28-year-old actress to play a 14-year-old.

Yeah it's such a weird casting choice for Elizabeth's role. She is supposed to be a teenager at this time, and they even celebrate her 15th birthday in episode 15, and they say about 100 times "it's her 15th birthday!" 😄 And all along she is a 28-year-old woman who does not look a day younger than 28. I mean, I like the fact that there are still some actresses in the industry who does not use botox from age 20 constantly, but for this role it's mistcasting. I saw this actress in other productions and she is great, she could be a great Elizabeth in a movie about her early reign. But not about her teenage years... I especially don't understand this miscasting when you look at how accurate the casting of other characters is.

Yeah, Bella Ramsey (Jane Grey in the series) was 18 when shooting this series, but I think she is someone who can look younger than that easily, so she can convince you that she is just a little teenager Jane Grey. She or someone like her would have been a good choice for Elizabeth. Over 18, so able to shoot whatever scenes legally, but with the right makeup she can pass as 13-14 convincingly. Then as the episodes progress, she can become 16, 18 aka the actress's real age, then with the right makeup she can become 20-22 as well. That would have been the ideal casting.
