I saw this movie for the first time yesterday. When my dad noticed which movie it was, he simply said "this one is so beautful, but also really sad" and he looked very nostalgic, but it also felt like he was trying to hide something. He had this look that proved how meaningful and impactful this story was to him, and he was so focused watching it with me until the movie reached a certain scene and he said "these final moments are really sad, keep watching it though... I'll come back to see the final scene" and left the living room. He never really shows how much music or movies mean to him, but this one certainly stayed in his heart from the moment he saw it the first time... Needless to say, it became one of my favorite movies of all time. Johnny Depp is amazing in this role, in this beautiful and sad story... I'll never forget this movie

I did a rewatch of this beautiful movie. Hadn't seen it in full since I was a kid. I wanted to revisit it for nostalgia, memories and inspiration. I had forgotten how much of a pure soul Edward was. Different things tugged my heart strings now. With emphasis on Edward. The image that I remember of when I saw it as a kid, was the bigger picture, with all the characters. Strangely enough, this time around, my focus seemed to be on Edward more heavily. As it should have happened. The first time around, I was heartbroken he was left alone and his love wasn't destined to last. This time around, I was heartbroken because I probably realized even more how much of a pure soul he was and he didn't deserve any of that. And I don't think I've noticed the first time that Kim wasn't exactly nice or perfect for him. For some reason, I felt less broken this time around by their unfulfilled story together. I was more bothered by the fact that Edward got mistreated so badly, so unfair. The dancing in the ice snow scene is my favorite and will always feel magical.

This movie still is a tear-jerker and now that I'm decades older, and have lived my life as a loner, I can relate to the movie even more. But isn't it cruel how people can love you one minute, but once their curiosity is fed they will disregard you just as easily?

I remember watching this movie on HBO not long after it came out. I was about 14, and my dad was watching it too. Well into the movie my dad says, "That's the boy who played in that cop show!" I had no idea what show he was talking about, or who the guy playing Edward was. He yelled for my mom to come in the living room, and said "Look at that boy, and tell me who you think it is?" She watched for a few minutes, and confirmed that it was the guy from 21 Jump street. I still had no idea who he was, but since then have known who Johnny Depp is. This was really his breakout starring role in movies after he was in Platoon.

The neighborhood is based on Tim Burton's hometown of Burbank, California. This is the first time that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp worked together. They became good friends while making the film. Edward's hair is based on Robert Smith of The Cure's hair. Edward's dog haircuts are real. Donna Pieroni's debut. Edward says only 169 words in the film. This was Vincent Price's last screen appearance, and his last moment ever on screen, is a death scene. Edward's odd hands mean he is unable to touch others physically, which becomes a problem when he falls for Kim. The film suggests there are ways he could gain ordinary hands, but that never comes to pass. Ultimately, it matters more to him that she understands and reciprocates his love. Even though he grew up on and loved monster movies, Tim Burton doesn't consider the drawings he did that lead to projects like Edward Scissorhands as "dark". "Most things, especially if they stayed with me, had a more emotional subtext to them," he says, "so I never really saw them as dark. They always seemed more positive in a way." Tim Burton has never intended to make a sequel as he said it would rob the film of its "purity". The houses used in the film were a real community in Florida, completely unchanged, except for their garish exterior paint. The little blond boy on the Slip 'N Slide, at the beginning of the film, is Nick Carter of The Backstreet Boys. Though uncredited in the film, Carter himself has confirmed this in several interviews. Johnny Depp had to lose a reported 25 pounds for the role of Edward Scissorhands. The entire story is meant to be seen through Edward's eyes, which is why the neighborhood looks so "fantastical." Johnny Depp stated that he "cried like a baby" when he first read the script.

The trailer narrator and that music.. i can taste the 1990 AMC popcorn and ice cold coke in that dark theatre. Is there anything more magical in this world than a trailer for a movie you know is gonna be so good?

turns 30 today. I did watch this back at my second house This is another unique achievement by Tim Burton. Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder make the picture soar. Dianne West is great as the caring adoptive mother figure. Vincent Price's last on-screen role too. The movie cut right to the core of teenage isolation. Deals with the angst of fitting in. Not to mention it moved the original screenwriter to tears about what it did for the disability community. We shouldn't let anyone tell us we have a handicap. Plus there's the mentality of conforming to how things are done when an outsider is introduced to a new town. It's sad that the only two choices are to leave or it'll kill you. Having something different can be fascinating to some but most see it as threat the natural order of things. Burton translates a lot of this spectacularly. Even asks if we were just like everyone else would it make us not special anymore. Stan Winston even made the props for the character. The neighborhood is actually a real housing development in Florida. Feels like a modern romantic Frankenstein. A turning performance by Depp showing his character accomplishes things because of his differences and beautiful music that dramatically changes with each scene. Heck there's even a fossil of an underwater creature named after the actor. The movie still resonates with Tim Burton as a personal autobiography. It's cool too that it secured Depp's and Ryder's and Burton's statuses as icons.
