I'm from the generation this came from. it's not a scam. and it's still a service today. idk who's making it up but it's literally govt backed service that's Free. same as your HEALTH INSURANCE connection programs on USA literally the same thing. neither are scams. every state has a health insurance connection program and it's possible EduCon is mainly for New England ( I only recalled seeing the ads In NE )

@@TemmiePlays It says on their own website that they are a private business not associated in any way with the US government. Looking at Education Dynamics, the company that owns them, it looks like they're funded by the universities themselves. Essentially universities pay them to direct people to them. That isn't inherently a scam. But it does leave more room for less than altruistic behavior, since they're not actually in the business of helping you, but rather the university.

@@OGCalicant from my own personal experience, it appeared mainly on satellite TV in the early-to-mid 2010s, it advertised getting matched to your ideal college for free with just a website. I never actually checked it out.

It's a little surreal to see people in the comments tying this jingle to soundbytes on TikTok, or thinking it was a scam (which I'm fairly sure it wasn't, though there were a couple that were, an example being the "Gerber Life Grow-Up Plan"). It got me thinking, i saw this on TV at one point, all the time, to the point i was able to memorize it. Now its some media relic for todays kids/teens that'll make some of them think its some "internet mystery-esque" kinda thing from the past. To think some of the people commenting here weren't even born during the time this commercial aired on TV, it's really crazy to think. But anyways, love the little animation, its so smooth, great job.

Wait, when did it air? I'm not a six-year-old, but 2007 was not that long ago. So it's possible I could be younger than this commercial... I honestly thought it was from either a commercial or a Net ad. Guess I was right. Edit: or an edited soundbyte (as in Fitness Gram Pacer Test style) and not... part of an actual commercial song. Edit 2: my first somewhat clear memories are from 2010, and my first very clear memories from 2011, so when I was three and four, respectively. And I don't remember this at all. ...then again, I almost exclusively watched PBS Kids...

It’s not really a service intended to find you a high-quality education. Instead, it works as an affiliate marketing system for sleazy for-profit colleges. I am not 100% sure of the exact business model, but it probably works something like this: for each student that EC refers to a particular college, the company pays it a commission (which may be substantial-hundreds or thousands of dollars). Since EC stands to make a lot of money from you, they will aggressively try to recruit you to attend one of their advertisers (and only their advertisers). There may also be other payments involved, but those are the basics. The important things to remember: • they are not trying to find the best college for you; they are trying to get paid. • the colleges they are trying to sell are shady for-profit schools, which are almost always very low quality. • they prey on low-income people who qualify for Pell grants or military members who can have their education paid for, and who are not well-informed about higher education. tl;dr: they’re not going to say “oh you’re interested in aviation? look at [respected public university with an aerospace engineering department].” they’re there going to rush you into an overpriced for-profit program and secure the bag.

They are not there to say “you are interested in aerospace; you should look at [well-regarded public university],” they are there to pass you off to a for-profit school in exchange for a hefty commission. You will be much better served by your high school’s guidance counseling department or other reputable services (generally, the kind that do not advertise on TV with a catchy jingle).
