@jankates, thanks for watching. I know what you mean, it looked like so many edge pieces. Two months in and I still can't find one edge piece, it will show up sometime.

I hope you update more frequently than once every three months. I love watching people complete puzzles. It's relaxing and I learn about new puzzles that I would love to do myself.

Hi John. I just got this puzzle also and agree about mixing them all to do one big puzzle, although I understand not everybody has the space to do that.

I respect your opinion on “big puzzles aren’t big puzzles unless you do them all at once”, but I’m doing a 13,000 piece puzzle (and considering how the biggest one I’ve done so far is a measly 1000 pieces), I’ll stick to one bag at a time 😅 I will make sure to keep checking in on your progress though! Good luck :)

@bickyroo Thanks for watching, Yes, I am fortunate to have a big open space. It took my wife a good 8 months to get it cleaned out so I had plenty of time to study the poster of the puzzle.

I love that you have a big enough space to lay that all out at once. I started working this puzzle too after mixing bags, but because I dont have that kind of dedicated space I am building the puzzle on 42 corrugated sheets of cardboard. Its to show that you can build a mega size puzzle without a mega size space. Final assembly could be tricky but there are ways around it. My biggest cringe moment though was at the end of your video as you are pouring pieces onto the table and you take it all the way to the end where I can see pieces dropping off the end. That to me is not being very careful with the pieces. So I hope you found them all. LOL. I would go to the extrme in the opposite way and get nowhere near the edge of the board. But that is just me I guess. Anyway, best of luck. I will keep watching but hoping for no more cringe worthy moments there. LOL

@pennyweiss1974 That is great that you are doing it that way, I was going to do it that way but then decided to clean out a space upstairs. I didn't find any pieces on the floor when I mixed the bags, but during winter when I wore long sleeves I would find pieces on the floor every couple of days. Now that we can wear short sleeves I haven't seen many on the floor.

Amazing!! A true puzzler through and through, mixing all the pieces. Awesome. What a journey ahead of you man, that is some image. I am along for the ride! Best of luck. I started the 18,000 piece Educa Sistene Chapel puzzle, and after mixing all bags, sorting, completing the edge and a few small areas, I currently have it rolled up and stored. I wish I had the free time to consistently work on it.

Hi, cilibrasi1040, thanks for the comment, The Sistine Chapel puzzle looks pretty hard, looks like a lot of white and of white pieces. For me sorting is the less fun part and you have that out of the way so hopefully you'll get to spend some time on it.

I was thinking monthly time lapse videos would be perfect. Start with a short intro with you alot closer to your mic then add time lapse videos with light background music for each update. Good luck with the updates 😊

Hi Emilie, thanks for watching. The Life puzzle looks like a lot of fun with all the bright colors. It might be tricky figuring out which pieces are hot air balloons, sailboat sails and fish, they are all so colorful.

I love to puzzle, but would never have the guts to take on something like this. I wish you luck, and I'll be checking back for updates. It'll be fun to watch this puzzle drive you nuts, I mean the progress, lol. Edit: When you got toward the end and showed the closeup of the handful, I just wanted to reach through the screen and grab the border pieces I saw. LOL

HI John Good luck with the puzzle. It looks like an interesting one to work on. I have done the 1500 piece Symbols of North America one that is part of that. On the subject of mixing all the bags, not everyone has the space to build a work bench large enough to do it all as one giant puzzle. Space is an issue for most of us. I have the 24000 Life and the 33600 Wildlife and I have no option but to do a bag or two at a time. Even if I mixed the bags before sorting the pieces, I would still have to work on sections that belong together so that I can place them across several stacked boards. The end result is still that the puzzles will be completed and hopefully I will enjoy my time spent on it. I mixed the two bags on the Ravensburger 9000 piece Disney Museum puzzle but will still have to put some of the portraits together and move onto boards. I usually take the time to sort properly to the best of my ability the first time so that i don't have too many re-sorts. A tedious as it can be, it saves a lot of time when actually working the puzzle. Like the others, I would like to see more regular progress updates to see how you are doing.

Hi Heather, thanks for the comment, I have seen the 1500 piece puzzles of this puzzle and they look like fun. Doing puzzles in sections is fine, any time spent puzzling is time well spent. I had planed to sort in more detail and if I would be doing it myself I would have, but people were ready to come over to help and sorting it a little more general gave them a chance to work on it while I was still sorting.

This looks like a huge undertaking!! My goal is to complete a giant puzzle like this! I have an 18000 piece Ravensburger I’m saving up for. Can’t wait to see your updates!

I just recently completed this puzzle. I wish that I had a big table like you so that I could have worked on the whole thing all at once. It would have made things much easier on me! Although I am space challenged, I did mix all the pieces…I wouldn’t have it any other way. I had 10 40”x60” foam boards that I worked across. My table could fit two stacks of boards side by side. So, I was constantly shuffling the boards back and forth to work the different sections. After 17 months, I finally finished…with no missing pieces! I do still have to pack up all the boards and take them to my mom’s basement as there is enough space there to get the entire puzzle put together. Best of luck to you! @kelabonte WOW, That is an amazing accomplishment!!! I was going to do it that way also but my wife got the upstairs cleaned out enough that I could spread the puzzle out on one table. Switching foam boards around had to be quite a challenge. Finishing it in 17 months shows a lot of dedication (and probably late nights).

Ill be looking back for updates. Id love to mix a big puzzle one day and I do agree about mixing the bags to fully get experience doing a giant puzzle. However I'd be careful about discounting others accomplishments if they did mix them. The puzzle companies say in the instructions not to mix them and its not practical for many.

I didn't mean to discount others accomplishments if they do their puzzle in sections, they still completed the puzzle and that is a great accomplishment for a puzzle of any size. I would however feel guilty telling people that I/we did a big puzzle without explaining that I/we did it in sections. It's like I tell people that I ride my bicycle over 100 miles some days, but I always mention that it is an e-bike.

Not completely true. I am doing the puzzle mixed bags too. I am putting each of the 6 1000 piece subsections from every bag onto a board and working them that way. So 42 total boards that are cardboard and thin. They stack easily. When u use the repeat pattern to build you can easily do this in a confined space. Now putting the entire thing together as one puzzle will be more challening, but I will find a way.

Yes totally agree. without the randomness of the ENTIRE piece count together the final win will be lessor.

I love your mentality. I do the same right now on a 9120 piece puzzle that came in two bags. I also think doing it in two parts defeats the purpose. Much respect to do this on a 42000 piece puzzle, though, the increase in difficulty is undeniably massive!

tooo funny and I thought of you again this morning... A day or so ago I had finished a puzzle and put it away... THEN! this morning I found a piece on the floor.. Oh No....I worry with all the moving of your boards I fear for lost pieces..... to get your puzzle together and have missing pieces would be terrible..... but I guess with the puzzle only being in the attic it would be there somewhere..... When I was a kid I played in our attic and yes it got HOT... hope you get to puzzle all year round...... I look forward to more updates.... this is fun for all of us... I have never done more than 1000 and I doubt I ever will.. so we enjoy your dream and want to hear about the good , the bad and the ugly of doing a puzzle this size and yes you are truly the only one I know actually doing a 42000 piece...... @kathylynn1375 Hi again, I find a piece on the floor every couple of days. The bags were opened up there and the pieces have only been in that space around the table. I am hoping that the pieces are all up there and didn't get carried away unknowingly in clothing or in someone's shoes. I'll be nervous when we get down to a few pieces if we'll have them all. Educa will replace a few for free, but hopefully they are all there. I might need to put an air conditioner up there or work on the puzzle at night or mornings and evenings over the summer. Thanks for the well wishes.

I loved you said maybe 25-30 people to watch the video as you are pushing 8k views. Love the updates, so glad they are monthly.

Hi inge6280, thanks for watching, Mom has people guess how long it will take and the guesses range from the end of this year to three years from now. And yes, very fortunate to have a room big enough. It took my wife about 9 months to get the upstairs cleaned out (a few yard sales and trips to the goodwill), but that gave me plenty of time to study the puzzle.

Having that much space is something very few puzzlers have so he'll definitely benefit from it.

I would love to attempt a puzzle of this size one day but I have space limitations. If I did one I would not be able to mix the pieces together but you’d better bet I would “claim” on my KZread channel and other social media that I completed a xxxxxx size puzzle and would get credit for hard work once completed. So calling anyone on working one bag at a time seems a bit unfair. However, I did subscribe and will be watching your progress.

I don't have a problem with people doing puzzles one bag at a time and I didn't claim that their effort doesn't count. It takes a lot of work, time and dedication to complete a puzzle of any size and they should get credit for it. I do however expect friends and anyone else to call me out if I tell them that I did a big puzzle without telling them the whole story and they find out later that I did it in sections. Most people that do puzzles work on 1,000 or 1,500 piece puzzles and they come in one bag, so when I tell people that I have a 42,000 piece puzzle they assume that it also came in one bag and they think of it that way. When I tell them that it comes in sections it makes a difference in how they think. If I tell you that some days I ride my bicycle over 100 miles, you think of that a certain way, but if you find out later that I have an electric bicycle then you're going to wonder why I didn't tell you the whole story, because even though I went 100 miles and came home tired and wore out, there's a difference. If you go on social media and claim you completed a big puzzle (mixed or in sections), you should absolutely get credit for it. If you do it in sections, tell people the whole story, there's a difference.

Would love to know how you built your table. Struggling with that myself. Can't wait to see your progress on the puzzle!

@jaynenelson7972, thanks for watching. I built 4 shop table bases one for each end and 2 for the breaks in the 8 foot plywood pieces, then smaller bases for bracing in the center of each piece of plywood. If you watch the next video, I'll show it in more detail.

I watch both Donna Louise and Karen Puzzles. I know from past videos Karen lives in an apartment so she doesn’t have the space. I believe that is the same reason for Donna Louise, her house isn’t big enough. It will be interesting to see you put this together.

@melanaperkins8033 Hi and thanks for watching, yes, and it is more difficult to video a bigger puzzle, they do time-lapse and voiceover and all sorts of technical stuff that I don't even attempt. I always call them the "Real KZread Puzzlers".

Thanks SO much for stating a plain and simple truth: If you keep the bags/sections separate, you're not doing a single giant puzzle... you're doing a bunch of smaller puzzles. I recently saw a video of the current largest puzzle in the world... 60,000! It comes in 60 bags, and as far as I can tell the person was planning to do them one at a time. Well that's fine, as long as when they're finished they don't brag that they put together a "60,000-piece" puzzle.

Totally up to you but next time you have to give info for your videos I would recommend sitting closer to your camera or getting a microphone. It’s not hard to add light background music in your videos too so I’d recommend watching a KZread video and learn how to add chapters and music to your videos.

@puzzlingin2worlds I just watched your "window on New York" unboxing and section 1 videos. I really enjoyed them and like that puzzle a lot.

I think if Karen had your space she would do the same as you, the same with Vicki Makes and Builds.it’s just with children animals and very little space they cannot . I have found them both really entertaining on large puzzles which I am unable to do, 100 being my limit due to disability.

I think he is not making puzzle everyday and many hours per day. So, the update is well for my opinion. Why do not mixed them in, on the big table? Well done, I am waiting for your finished big puzzle.

While I understand about sorting by color, BUT where are you going to keep all those pieces after seperation & what are your plans on the chance the pieces are for different sections?

Hi waynebennett745, I sorted by color and put each color on its own cardboard(or cardboards). For example, red takes up 4 cardboards, I leave the cardboards on the table along the wall, then whenever I'm working on something red I just take the cardboards to that spot and take off the pieces I need and then put the cardboards back. That way if I need a red piece I'm only looking through the cardboards for that color an not other colors as well. There might be a better way to do it but that was the way I thought would work best.

@@puzzlemethis. I understand that thinking. BUT say the section you're on only needs 3 pieces with red. You've got to look through all red to find them & then do the same for all the other colors in that section.

i see what you mean by mixing the bags then you really did a big puzzle. but i also know that some people are maybe not able to build such a big puzzle at one go and feel like they will never finish. maybe thats why they dont want to mix the bags. and then again. what is wrong with getting views and followers. everyone likes to be validated at some point, even you. nothing wrong with that. i love timelapses and also knowing how many hours are spent on a puzzle. my biggest is only 3000 pieces. i like to compare my time with youtubers time as well. happy puzzling and i will follow you building this puzzle :)

60k puzzle comes like 60×1'000pcs bags...what the point...why they don't mix it while manufacturing...

Another thought to consider…Karen Puzzles and Donna Louise, For the Love of Puzzles work alone on their puzzles, as far as I know. It is great that you have a bunch of family and friends who will be doing this entire process with you, sorting, logging hours, working independently and/or together, but *you* alone will not be completing this gorgeous puzzle.

7 6000 piece puzzles can't be called "a 42000 piece puzzle" because they're multiple individual puzzles.

I'm so afraid your going to lose a piece.

Not everyone has the space to lay out that many pieces at the same time...

As another commenter said, not everyone can afford to mix the bags together and make ONE big puzzle because they do not have the space for it!! So you to say that you dont accept youtubers who do these puzzles in sections, and you claim that they are not real puzzlers. Well that is just a NASTY Comment to make!! And Clearly you have a lot of money if your giant table costs more than the puzzle did - because that puzzle has to be several hundred dollars at least!! I wont be back to watch. Who wants to wait 3 months between videos? Not me. Clearly you dont think you can do this. If you do the puzzle in sections, you could probably be all done in 3 months!!!

He made some good points about the mixing. If you want the true challenge of a 42k piece puzzle, you should mix them. If you don't, or if you don't have the space, don't mix them. Seems to me it's a matter of personal preference. No need to get huffy about it.

Hi @Addicted2Puzzles, I spent the last 3 months watching you do the 60,000 piece puzzle. Doing 1,000 pieces a day for 60 days was quite a challenge. I thought at the beginning that your son was right but you proved us both wrong. I didn't know that you had this puzzle, I'll be watching for it. If you find yourself on the other side of the country, stop in, I could use some big puzzle tips. I don't mind people doing puzzles in sections, I just wanted to try it this way and I don't have a time limit and I'll have some help also. I don't know how real youtubers like yourself do it, I'm a nervous wreck every time I'm in front of the camera. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I don't know that for fact, but I don't like sorting. Thank you for watching my 60-day challenge! I wanted to add something to that 60k puzzle because most people can do sixty 1000-piece puzzles, so I thought in 60 days might add some fun and challenge to it! I agree with buying a big puzzle, you should do a big puzzle! But I'm space challenged, so I do them in sections. But the day will come when I have space and I have large puzzles, so we'll see what the future holds. 😀 I would love to come help you! That'd be a blast! 🧩☺️
