It was a read… watch the full fight and you see everytime Dariush does a level change he throws a jab first. Barboza notices this and once he saw the jab being thrown he through the knee up knowing he was gonna level change

The knee was timed perfectly. Everyone of Beneil entrance he ducked his head before throwing. Edson was starting to catch him with jabs while he was coming in. Got the timing down and threw the knee

Barboza is dangerous fighter, its no shame that Benny lost with him.

After this spectacular KO Edson went on to fight khabib next, khabib didn't get a title shot until a few years later. This is a great fight that shows wrestling doesn't always beat striking. Edson basically died against khabib

Edson is one of the very best at doing this kind of reads and timing perfect counters

That knee looked set up and timed. Great job by both fighters 👏

Watching that knee hit Beneil is one of the sweetest feelings.

Earlier in the fight beneil has the same takedown setup, a jab into the takedown. Barboza saw this and when the jab came he countered.
