    If they can trade Ceci for cap space to sign Holloway and Broberg, why would you not keep Kane. He could play on literally any line considering the teams depth going into the season. I mean if our 3rd line is Janmark Henrique Brown, and our 4th is Kane Holloway and Perry, or maybe Kane takes Nuges spot, they’ve got a good roster.

    I don’t understand why Kane’s name was even brought up for a trade. His numbers have been great, he’s coming off a 24 goal season. I would give him as much time as he needs to heal even if that means starting him on LTIR at the beginning of next season. As for Holloway and Broberg, they are both RFA’s, I’m not sure about Holloway, but I believe that Broberg can’t go to arbitration, so are they really going to get more than they were qualified for? As much as I would love to bring a true top 4 RD, the defensive group was really good last year after Coffey took over and are you really going to find an upgrade on Ceci that costs as the same or less than him? I hate to say it but it looks like Kulak would be the odd man out if Broberg is going to play on the main roster all season. Honestly I like the team now, the only change would be another top 4 RD for Ceci if they can make it work.

  • @RCfromCanada
    @RCfromCanada9 күн бұрын

    The Oilers lost the cup because they were missing Kane. He would have added the physical play and a few goals, especially neutralizing Chucky. Cap-wise the Oilers don't have an issue if they move Cody Ceci. Ceci can be moved, although the Oilers have to include a mid-round draft pick with him. Holloway and Broberg are $1 million per each on bridge deals. The Oilers aren't moving Kudlak. They picked up two right-side D to replace Ceci and Desharnais. The biggest issue is where to place Kane on the roster. He's too good to play on the fourth line. I'd suggest he plays with Henrique, and Holloway on the right side. The fourth line would be Janmark, Brown, and Ryan unless they bring in a right-shot center with size. I can see Ryan being the 14th forward. Perry the 13th.

    If Kane is 100% the most logical person to move to the 3rd line would be Nuge to be it's center where the Janmark/Henrique/Brown line becomes the 4th line. Nuge would get Holloway and "one other player" who would have to be a play driver (not sure if Holloway can do that to the extent needed and Nuge doesn't do that, he's utility and a facilitator, not a driver). Arvidsson plays right wing normally as does Hyman so if Connor or Leon gets Kane on the Left Skinner would go to the other person. Gives both lines a grinder (Hyman and Arvidsson) and both lines a shooter (Kane/Skinner) with two great centers (Connor/Leon). Nuge with Holloway on his left would need a play driving RW. While Levoie is a RW is he a play driver? Eventually our new addition Matt Savoie would probably slot in here quite well but he has one NHL and 6 AHL games on his resume and has played mostly in the W so he needs some experience first (don't throw another prospect to the wolves PLEASE). Just a few thoughts. Oh, paying for it, if you move Ryan/Perry you free up $2,015,000. With what we're low on that pays for both Broberg and Holloway (if $830K to each is enough) but we'd still need that RW for Nuge. If you trade Ceci (no chance for Kulak, he's GOLD come playoffs and a local boy and cheaper by 500K (and leftie)) you have to replace Ceci with a better RD. Better and cheaper rarely mix. While some may say no problem easy you're wrong. He does a lot (and yes, he messes up too but some of that is covering for Nurse). Take care all.

I think Kane works "better" with Leon and with Arvy in the corners battling and IN YOUR FACE in the blue paint (and ready to try and earn another Oscar for DIVING (hopefully not too much of that)) that line works great too. I think it really will come down to the blender and honestly Connor and Leon. Connor has had Hyman/Nuge for most of a year and Leon's had "remnants" of low quality or guys who are injured and can't play to their ability (Kane). He deserves great linemates too.

    A healthy Kane adds some healthy value. Injuries seem to pile up every time they play LA, and they grind through afterward. It’s going to be an interesting shuffle of the cabinet, but some up front grit and nastiness is probably more desirable at this point than skilled guys who will be injured when it matters most.

    I am really concerned about the Oilers' cap situation. They need to resign Holloway and Broberg who are currently RFAs. At this point we want to keep all 5, but the NHL won't allow it. So as far as I'm concerned, we need to let at least some of them go.. If we keep Kane, like it sounds like they want to do (I think they may not be able to as he is a $5.125M cap hit), we seem to be in between a rock and a hard place. If we trade both Ceci and Kulak we either hurt our defense as we won't be able to trade for as good a player as that will be a large cap hit, and we can't keep them as we need to be cap compliant. Overall, I am very concerned about our defense this year. We let a lot too many teams into our defensive zone in the playoffs, and that really hurt us. We were saved by our strong forward lines. I fear that will only be more true next year as Jeff has gone all out to bolster our offense at the expense of defense. That is very exciting, but a Stanley cup team needs a good offense and defense to win. At this point, we may have to let Broberg and/or Holloway take an offer sheet from another team to make sure we are cap compliant.

    @@nrXic I think I changed my mind about Kane. Apparently he is going to have surgery sometime in Aug, not sure what for though. Kane is not good in the playoffs by the way. Just look at his plus minus. Putting Kane on injury list will allow us to get Broberg and Holloway. That's my best guess. Also Kane is never played a full season. He is always injured. Now he is injured with a hernia, wrist, something else, plus other stuff we don't even know about. Kane is done. He is an old man now too. Just about to turn 33. He had a good run. Time to close up shop and not make his plus minus any worse. He is -17 in playoffs and -50 for the regular season. He will cost the Oilers lots with these horrible stats. He is done. We don't need to carry an old man in our arms. And that's what he will be. Bad contract for the Oilers. Nurse and Ceci should be the only options tradeable.1 for cap space and tweak the defense a bit with actual shutdown roles ONLY. There must be a sort of Gustav Forsling out there lolll I wont consider Kane because of injuries he can go on IR. Oilers have Arvisson also who's a injury prone which will likely be on IR at somepoint. The timing could be "good" if they're injured at the end of the season before the trade deadline.

    My personal thoughts are to get rid of a contract worth 9,250,000. Kane is a keeper in my mind right from the start when Kane wasn't welcome by some when he was traded . This team would be foolish to even entertain the idea of letting him go. Kane has a good contract and is willing to rough it up if needed, not like the other one . Okay let's talk about the other player. From what I understand he is a good team mate on bench, dressing room an all around nice guy But since his contract his play has petered out. Another question is who gave a defenseman that kind of money.

He can play either wing or center and he's 900K. Perry gets $1,015,000 plus bonus's. Punt him down. He's a pylon with a mouth who doesn't take faceoffs. Nurse isn’t movable unless we ship him out for another teams cap problem. I’ve seen the suggestion of a nurse+ for Vlasic as he’s only got 2 years left and SJ has cap space and would prob like to grab another asset. Problem is we’re in win now mode and moving McDavid BFF could rock the boat too much in the room and whatever cap dump we get in return won’t be great and likely by logic would be attached to an inferior player. Hence the potential reasoning behind a club grabbing Nurse. I just don’t see it.

    Fine with Kane, but he is a bad fit for McDavid and Draisaitl's lines. They both performed much with with him than without him the past 2 years. Kane needs to accept his 3rd line role and cannot be a distraction. He is in his mid 30s now, needs to realize he is not a top 6 guy anymore.

    What’s giving you that impression? There’s no concrete proof that he doesn’t get along with some teammates here. Kane isn’t going anywhere. He has a No Movement Clause, just built a new house in Edmonton, and is very active in the community. If he wasn’t getting along with the team, why do recent reports say he refused to waive his NMC? He wants to stay here. Why would he want to stay if he doesn’t like his team lol?

    I would like to see Kane and Kulak stay. Cici is much better than Nurse in different ways, but together I think Nurse brings him down. The only issue I have with Kane, is all the baggage he still carries with him. He's too streaky, and you still hear mumurs of locker room distruption, and his attitude on occasion. If he would just show up to the rink, play hockey to the best of his abilities, and not cause any issues at all, I would be happy to keep his cap, and move someone else. Right now though, if they traded him out? I wouldn't miss him too much at this point. I just don't have much faith in Kane keeping it together, long-term. 🤷‍♂
