This is one of the films that will be highlighted at the "Light the Lamp: Hockey Heritage with the Provincial Archives of Alberta" film matinee on Saturday, April 8, 2017 starting at 2:00 pm at the Garneau Theatre in Edmonton.

    I was there as a young kid probably 50-100 time growing up. My dad took me whenever he could. He knew lots of them but the only name I can remember is Pug Young.

    I cannot thank you enough for this. Man, that is a thing of beauty. When I go to hockey games, usually is at that same spot, on the end, higher up row. Just made me feel like I was there :)

    Edmonton Gardens 1913 Boston Gardens 1928 maple leaf Gardens 1931 Madison square Gardens the building we know today is the forth building to bear the name. 1879,1890,1925 and 1968 is the building we know now renovated in 1991 and 2011. the Edmonton Gardens was on the same land as the Agricom and the Expo centre sits on the same site as the Northland's Sportex building.

    no it was downtown across from the four seasons not very far from the new one

    You are thinking of the Thistle Rink (built in 1902, burned down in 1913) which stood where Commerce Place now stands in the downtown area.

    The Saskatoon Quakers, a team that had a minor affiliation with the Toronto Maple Leafs at the time. Max Bentley, the former Leafs winger of the 1940s, played with this team at the time of this film footage; he was winding down his hockey career. Note: the uniform of the Quakers at this time was based on the Leafs.

    Yes, the Edmonton Gardens (formally Edmonton Arena) stood where the current Edmonton Expo centre (formally the Agricom) stands. This arena was opened in 1913 and demolished in 1982.
