First a little background on Korean culture, they count age starting at birth, so at birth you are 1 and your age changes at the first of every new year (there are some exceptions). So in this video when she says she was 20, that would be her Korean age, her international age would be 19. Korea changed to the international age standard this year as far as the offical government age system. Iu was born May 16th 1993 so she is now 30. She got to be 30 for 2 years in a row, with the Korean change. She debuted in 2008 at the age of 15. She wrote Hold My Hand in 2011 at the age of 18, and that was the first song where she received sole lyric writing credit. She took over control of her music in 2014 when she started to write much of her own songs, composed many of then and produced them as well. Her album Flower Bookmark was and album made up completely of remakes/covers. BBIBBI was a song addressed to all the haters and hate commenters out there of which IU has taken a leadership in combating by filing suits against the worst offenders. Her efforts in that along with her song BBIBBI secured her the 9th position on the New York Times list of the top 25 artist with the greatest cultural influence. Her song Eight is about her struggle in dealing with the 3 suicide deaths of close friends all in the Kpop industry. In 2017 Junghyun of Shinee who IU was very close took his own life. Then in 2019 just after completing the filming of her Kdrama Holel Del Luna and before she started her Love Poem tour her very good friend of 8 years, Sulli took her life. Sulli appeared in episode 10 of Holet Del Luna. The about 30 days later as IU was completing her 2nd Seoul concert date the news that Goo Hara had taken her life reached IU during the concert. IU had a difficult time completing the concert. The title Eight in typical IU fashion has several meanings, it was part of her age series as both her and Suga were 28 at the time (Korean age), she had known Sulli for 8 years meeting her in 2011 when they cohosted a TV show. While IU is born for the stage and sounds best live her MV's are a study in the use of metaphors, symbolism and imagery to tell are deeper more profound part ofvthe story. Her MV for BBIBBI is the most complex, followed by Eight. But she also tells stories across songs. Her song You & I was released in 2011 and is about 2 young people in love but the boy is in a coma, so IU builds a time machine to go the Dec 31st 2019. In early Dec of 2019 IU unreleased part Above the Time, where they are both in the same time but separate by different dimensions. Part 3 is Blueming were they are finally both in the same time and dimension separated only by a wall which end with her waiting by the gate through the wall. There are explanation videos that help break down these songs and point out all the things and there relevance. DKDK TV does a good job with Eight (although they miss a very important aspect) and You and I + Above the Time and Blueming. Tors1e's explanation of BBIBBI is by far the most complete and captures all the tiny details. One last thing, in January of this year Rolling Stone released an update to their list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time, IU made the list at number 135 and became the first Korean singer to make the list. All hail the Queen, Long Live the Queen.

I also really love her Hold My Hand live perf, so amazing. Iirc it is one of her first songs that she wrote and compose on her own, back when she was 18(?). -iu debuted in 2008, and her 1st national hit was Nagging (feat Im Seulong 2AM) (2010). After that she got few more national hits, and in fact iu can make 2 (!) Killing Voice with her other strong hits. This list of song in the video, FYI is sooo strong and sooo popular in S.Korea. -her move in Every End of The Day is the choreo/ dance. There are dance for 23, lilac, every end of the day, and coin.

a soloist that i think you will like is Heize. she's an R&B female soloist and she has a Killing Verse. same as Killing Voice but for rappers and R&B artists.

The song '23' refers to Korean age, so in international age IU would only be about 21 1/2, or so.
