True and I agree what she did was wrong however I have a lot of respect for them coming out and defending their points and statement to the actual person and not just a msg online. So I dont agree with what she did but good job to her for coming on the show and still doing this. So give credit where its do. I'm from Ontario and I'm actually shocked that Dave would even take the time to acknowledge these losers when 99% of their "reporting" is just copy/pasting a post they found on reddit or facebook... It's like Canelo Alvarez inviting a heckler in the crowd to have a press conference with him. Dave doesn't even realize this is the highlight of her life because it's the first time anyone with a following has acknowledged their website as a real source of information. That's why she agreed to come on, because BlogTO is so small that this is the biggest moment in their entire "journalism" career.

Nah, wouldn’t be a good look, even though they used negativity to get views, after her being open and honest about it, which regular people already know and can see through, if he did that, regular people would know and see through the fact that he would do that just to be petty, and for her to get harassed… while he will go to war with someone, he’s not going to punch down like that because it doesn’t gain him anything, especially after they admitted they were being negative on purpose for the clicks, getting her to admit the truth and accepting that respecting that and moving on is the best thing he can do, if he keeps going and sends his fans to harass the writer, it then spins the story back into a negative light, which would causes more media companies to write about how terrible of a person he is, and how he will weaponize his fans to go after any media company if he feels slighted, and does so in a child like petty way, which he couldn’t argue against if he did that.

I think the editor told the truth that almost every “ journalist” understands. Journalists are not respected, and this is a piece of the reason. But it sure was honest, so I give her a lot of credit for that. I think she will make better decisions in the future. As will the reporter. I hope.

One other thing I would add when talking to these "journalists" is I would ask them this question: Hypothetical question? Say you get yourself a job interview with a major media company with a big pay raise and I am a "journalist" and I call that company before your interview and ask them how they feel about this "controversial" "journalist" whom some claim is racist, sexist etc. coming to interview for work at your company? That would almost certainly cause that company to reconsider the offer which is essentially what they did to you and it is journalistic malpractice and incredibly unethical as well in my humble opinion! I love your content Dave keep up the good fight!

Dave, you handled this like a champ… this is a perfect example of how much easier it is to speak the truth and just be honest. I’ll tell my kids how hard it is to be mad at someone for being honest, especially when it’s brutal honesty that most would lie about… which most don’t realize how much more respect they would get for being truthful , over the results they would get from trying to hide the truth.Can be counterproductive most the time, and I give you props for your reaction to her truth, you didn’t punish her or make her regret being honest with you. Not gonna lie, critics have always been a fucking bad for any type of business. They provide nothing except a personal outlook on how they feel about something and can destroy how others perceive it because of their audience. I stopped reading critics before a movie or game for the most part, but with Dave's audience if he has a bad interaction they will review bomb the place as well putting other's livelihoods at place. I think any place that doesn't realize the impact his reviews have deserve to know whether or not they should serve him.

I love this exchange, Dave, who is always on the front line, bristling for a fight, constantly on edge, being totally disarmed by someone telling the truth, which is hard to come by these days, nice to see it does happen though.

Hey, at least she showed up, unlike the coward blogger who calls herself a journalist. Thing is though, her answer that floored Portnoy wasn't anything to be proud about: she basically said "controversy sells, so it's in our interests to portray you in the worst way possible, because otherwise we wouldn't be in business". That's the same thing as saying "hey, when I fight someone, I don't come at them like a man, I sucker punch them, and then when they're on the ground, I kick them in the face and ribs". Now, does that work? Yes. Is it a good thing, or make you a good person in any way? NO; in fact, it marks you as a horrible person. Effectiveness doesn't mean that you've got any reason to smile or be proud; that person should hang their head in shame.

Journalist and Journalism professor here. Her tactics are dirty as hell but that's what the majority of journalists like her are focusing on nowadays. I don't teach that kind of reporting; quite the opposite actually. But it's hard to combat that mentality overall. All in all, it's a shame that they took this avenue with him. If I was the editor of that blog, I would out an article that says "Portnoy Comes to Toronto - Here's the 5 Pizza Spots We Think He should hit", and then followed up with the potential of a collaboration promoting the Barstool Fund etc., taking him on a Pizza tour of the city. They could have gotten the same level of exposure without having the controversy. Hell, it would have put the blog on the map with Barstool fans. But a lot of journalists like her feed upon the drama and it's sad really. Glad the beef is over though.

"Pizza Celebrity" has actually been my dream job since childhood.

I'm actually kind of surprised she isn't a huge CEO of a mega corporation. Maybe she is too kind hearted or unhinged or some other bad trait as she seems like she is a problem solver on the biggest of scales

What impresses me the most about @Dave is that he actually took the time to listen to her - even though she and her team perpetuate click bait and absolute bull shit in journalism. Dave and team did a wonderful job.

As a Torontonian I can promise you, nobody reasonable actually cares about what blogTO writes. It's consistently in the news for bullshit articles or statements. It's made a name for itself in profiting on the misplaced and misinformed anger of its readers. Any sane person that read that article (you can still go read it right now, amazingly it's still up) can see that it was a hit piece. idk how she can say what she said in this interview with a straight face while that article is still up for everyone to read. I guess that says a lot about society today, I guess she just assumes people won't just go read it themselves. Anyway, just know there are tons of fans in Toronto, and not everyone here is like the writer or editor of this article.

The editor did give a legit answer, they are in the click views business, like Barstool, so headlines are controversial. El Prez is innocent, and keeps doing good things for small business. Respect Dave.

I don’t give a damn about Dave one way or the other. However, “Journalistic due diligence” is not calling people who have never met the subject of the article to tell them about serious allegations made against him. In no way does that contribute to the content of the story. It’s passing premature judgement, based on what the Zeitgeist is leaning towards, and fanning the flames for views. Which she said. But don’t call it journalistic due diligence in one sentence and in the next breath concede hate clicks sell and that’s why you did it. You can’t eat your cake and have it too. The real shame is that this is what upcoming journalists believe to be journalistic integrity. Universal truth is not measured in mass appeal.

Dave literally made his fortune off the exact same business model. Having Barstool staff write controversial rage bait blogs that would get clicks. His fortune was also heavily reliant on promoting gambling websites which are well known to financially devastate individuals and families across America. You making a pikachu face when you realize people other then Dave will also do anything for $ is cute but also incredibly naive.

I like how they reach out to people who have already asked Dave to come to the lizza shop and they start with. “Are you a fan of Dave Portnoy” (I’d assume they are if they already invited him) and then they say “here’s some things that might make you not like him”.but it’s not a hot piece.

From Toronto and well before this I blocked Blog TO as they are one of if not the most hated blogs/“news” sources in Toronto. They use dumb headlines and just generally suck all around.
