I still haven't been able to really wrap myself around Capture One. It seems like it's slower than Lightroom as far as editing bulk amounts of photos. But I also don't really know the program so we'll have to see. If they make a mobile Capture One I'm sure EVERYONE will switch to using that.

John Branch IV Photography I thought the same also which was part of why it took me so long to adapt to it I even did a D.i.t job last year for a Budweiser and Panera bread product shoot and it still didn’t hit me fully until I just started using it for my personal workflow and then seeing how much better my Fuji files truly looked! It’s a small difference but it’s enough to turn me. If I start my KZread channel I’ll definitely do a video on my Lightroom to Capture one journey.

Hi John, quick question, when editing on the iPad how bright do you have it? 50% 70% 100%?!? I read somewhere that this could effect how the images come out in print or over different social media. Thanks

Yeah. I was hoping to see him upload something to Facebook. I have a technique i use on desktop which is to aim for 2048 on the long edge, and make sure it gets compressed to below 1 mb first. Otherwise facebook compression kills it. But I've been struggling to get decent results uploading directly from ipad. I see macroblocking and banding from time to time. Sometimes it helps to use safari rather than the fb app. But that's still not a solution in all cases. Is there a better way, anyone know?
Hi john, great video, subscribed. I've been using the iPad Pro solely for my photo editing and found it to be great. Quick question which I'm curious about having read some other opinions online. What do you have your brightness set to on your iPad when editing? Read a lot about having it half way, so that is where I have mine set. How have you found prints turning out after being edited on the iPad? I haven't printed anything I've edited yet.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I could share the "yes" method of culling. Yeah, it's been surprising watching Lightroom CC "grow up" over the years. Great John, I have a question, do you screen record your iPad then import into Video editing software with an image placeholder of the ipad pro or is it a separate app?
Awesome video! Learned a Lot! Would like to know, do you avoid the details/effects tabs mostly to not oversharpen an image? I'm notorious for pixel peeping and think I abuse those features a bit too much. Would like to know when/why you use sharpening/effects!
@jbivphotography
3 жыл бұрын
I do normally avoid it to make sure I don't over sharpen. But on the same in with Fujifilm files they get a wormy grain on them when sharpened the wrong with in Lightroom so that's another reason why I stay away from the details slider.
Question. When you imported the pictures to Lightroom, did you actually import the DNGs or only generated Previews, and if so, how did you export the pictures to Files if you’re not connected to your device? This was not quite clear to me
Very nice. Thanks.

@jbivphotography

It does add additional steps. You could just import photos directly to files on your iPad with an SD card reader. However if you’re working on larger projects that’s going to take up a bunch of the space on your iPad. Which is why I choose to show this method.
Thank you

Hi John…. what’s your idea of using a Privacy Screen Protector on your iPad that you use mostly for photo editing?…or I should just use the regular clear screen protector… Thank you for your time.
This is so helpful! I've used LR for 14 years, and wished for a way to do things 100% on the iPad. AT LAST!!! Question - could you then upload the wedding to an online proofing site? (Shootproof, etc.) Without leaving the iPad? Hoping to go 100% iPad only when I travel again for branding sessions.
Super helpful !! Thanks so much . I’m always afraid to go in there lay a preset and then edit more , I Don’t know if I’m over doing it and then my client can’t print because it has so too much hue or grain How can I tell if I’ve gone overboard ? I know a histogram pretty much Is your key but maybe a video on histogram reading in the future would be so helpful as well Thanks so much !!!
Love this video, excellent quality. I have just subscribed. Question: I like the look of the selects app but I don’t have gnarbox. Can you recommend a similar/ good alternative app for culling photos?
@jbivphotography
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subbing. I wish I knew of something that was like the selects app without a GNARBOX but I’m not familiar with anything. You can cull the same way in Lightroom as well however. I’m thinking about live streaming me using the iPad so you all can see the process live as well.
Thanks for the "yes" method! So many photographers spend a lot of time flagging rejects.

Hi John, first of all, congratulations for your work and thanks u so much for your channel! I am writing to you because I recently purchased an iPad Pro 2020 and am having serious problems exporting raw files. I have seen many of your videos where you export in JPG, but I have not seen any where you export in RAW. How should the workflow for raw files be? I mean, if I come home with 500 photos on the memory card. I import the photos directly to Lightroom, select 50 with a "Yes method" ;) delete the 450 I don't want and now? What do I do with the 50 RAW that I want to keep? I must export them as "Original", and here the problems begin. In the desktop version, when you delete a photo, you have the option to also delete it from memory, but this doesn't happen in the mobile version, and I really miss it. If I export directly from Lightroom to an external SSD or another memory card, 30% of the files are corrupted, some cannot be opened directly, in others it alters the color channels, cut images, etc ... If I export directly to the memory of the Ipad there is no problem, but when through the app files, I copy these files to the external SSD/memory card, corrupted files again. I have done tests with iPadOS 13, and with the 2 public betas of iPadOS 14... the same problem always. Any idea what's going on? It is not an SSD problem because it also occurs with several different memory cards. It is not a Lightroom problem either because if I export to the memory of the iPad I have no problem. The problem occurs when the files pass from the Ipad to another storage unit. Thanks in advance!!
Hi!! Cool video! Do you use the "Camera Matching" on "Profile" for the Fuji colors?? Or do you use only presets?
Great video. I am not much of an apple user though. What is that felt surface you have under your keyboard and mouse? Looks nice!
Hi, When you are using the Gnarbox in the video, did you import the RAW file into lightroom? Can I transfer the lightroom catalog onto my desktop and continue editing? It will be nice if you can do another video to show how to transfer the job flow from this video to continue working editing on the desktop.
Hiii, I have a question, regarding iPad Pro or MacBook Pro for photography, which one would you recommend, and what version? Also, regarding the iPad Pro what version would be best for a photographer to use, as her only device for editing photos? Unfortunately, I can’t afford an at home set up and iPad, it has to be one or the other..😩 😊Thank you so much..
Great explanations on using the color wheels with iPad. And I learned how to do batch editing on my iPad...so much easier! Thanks! No brush options really yet on the iPad though, correct?
@jbivphotography
3 жыл бұрын
That's correct for the brush options. You'll have to just dial in the settings you want specifically.
Can you export directly onto an external SSD or hard drive as to not take up space on the device? Do you think there will be a way to edit from an external drive one day like you can on Lightroom Classic? These are some of my only drawbacks from switching to an iPad for my real estate photography
Thank you for the demo. It's truly helpful. I'm about to enter another season of photos. I'll be processing close to 1-1/2 TB of images and i'm curious, is this the tool to use or a new laptop. I'm using a 2015 MacBook pro. I have a photo booth at a popular location fro the summer months. This is an unconditioned space. I spoke to Apple today and the rep is selling me that the new iPad Pro can replace my 2015 MacBook Pro. I'm thinking replacing the Mac book pro...
Would a 2017 iPad (not pro) be a reasonable option? I found one for 100 but idk if I should get it and if it would benefit me cause of the later model. What do you think?
Hi! Do you use a screen protector? I’m thinking of purchasing a matte protector to avoid getting fingerprints on the screen. But I think it has a big effect on the colors. I mean, the colors would look a bit “washed out”.. :(
My two Nikon cameras have XQD cards. Does GNARBOX have a slot for this type card. If not, would first download my images on my XQD to an external HD, then to the iPad?
John, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Since my laptop died, I haven't had a mobile way of editing for some time now. I been debating with "myself" whether or not to bite the bullet and get the new iPad Pro 11" 2020 or the 2018 version. Do you see much difference in the two? Thanks for your help.
@jbivphotography
4 жыл бұрын
There really isn't too much of a difference between the too. Going forward however with the announcement of iOS14 and Big Sur it may make more sense to get the 2020 for the long term investment. I feel like there's going to be some really cool things coming down the pipeline in the future.

SO when you export what is the point to do it via the ipad if it is a preview ? Doesn't that mean you must go back to your computer and export full res from there ? or does it upload raw or only smart preview to the cloud ? Aways wondered about this @john Branch

Hey! Did you get a chance to try out the new Gnarbox 2.6.0 firmware? I see it has lots of new features. Interested to hear your thoughts!
I need some advice. I have an android ecosystem and I have been editing my photos on my Note 10 plus but I am looking to buy a tablet to improve the entire process. Just wondering if the ipad pro uses lightroom cc or lightroom mobile. I am currently debating between the Samsung Tab S7+ and iPad Pro 11. For sure S7+has android so it is lightroom mobile but how about the iPad Pro 11? Helps a lot because I have a full adobe student package but it does not include lightroom mobile. So if I am to use the tablet, it would be better if I chose one with loghtroom cc since it is part of the adobe package helping me save money from the monthly subscription.
