Short fiction is the best kind of literature: quick to read, easier to grasp, and sometimes, the subject matter of the story linger longer on the reader's memory.

One mistake writers typically do when asking for feed back is they don't tell the reader what their writing objectives are. If the reader knows what you are trying to do they can then comment more effectively. " I'm trying to show my MC is intentionally weak minded so she'll grow mentally. Did I pull it off?"

Love the simplicity of the advice to remember what your objective is and look to achieve that in the shortest way possible. That sounds easy, but often gets lost when you're in the thick of it!

With me i went in the current story im trying to edit knowing what genre i wanted it to be and normally im done when im done with the first draft i even have a habit of going back and adding stuff before im done with the first draft if i find it to be too light like when i added a new transition scene because it just cut abruptly to the next scene or when i add something on a whim i can add a new scene earlier where they got the item and i already knew the genre i was aiming for cosmic horror but im trying to edit this more recent story because i just dont like it im unsatisfied with it but im okay with it being longer infact im thinking about including it in the anthology i started writing because im perfectly fine if it ends up the size of a novel and while i never even took a single writing class i know enough that i know i wont be able to cram too much into each with how its going to be 10 stories but considering how i have to learn punctuation because of not knowing it i already know its going to take alot of work but i want the stories to be something i like even if it means it would not as popular as it could be as for the inciting incident it is easily in the first scene i think i dont really know exactly what a scene is am so much of a amateur but i know its extremely early in easily on the first page i think i need to actually separate it into paragraphs so i can tell but i don't know how to so its hard for me to tell just how early it is but would less then 2600 words be too short if so i rushed scenes so i can flesh them out as for the story its i think that close 2nd person think i think because the narrator of the story is the protag and this is actually i habit of mine because my stories tend to have the protag be the narrator and the story is past tense and near the end it goes into a 3rd person perspective as it reveals the twist and im a discovery writer with most stories there is only one novel sized story i have planned with specific scenes but i tend to not plan most of my stories but if i have it part of a universe i created i make sure its consistent but considering how my stories tend to be cosmic horror there are going to be some creatures that don't follow the same rules but i make sure bring attention to such things in the stories with the characters themselves noticing it too.

Great video as always, but me real question is where can I get that reedsy hoodie? It looks killer comfy, and they don’t have a merch store that I see on the site.

the inciting incident doesn't need to be shown. It can happen off camera and you start in the aftermath with MC dealing with repercussions.

Sorry, the music is distracting and annoying. It undermines concentration and learning (as a rule). Why add it at all? Just bc youtube academy suggests it by making free muzak available? 😖🤨

@@garbagerat4700 she did apologize before a constructive criticism, didn’t she? The music is distracting in deed as are the swooshes of incoming notes. For this format of learning in such a fast way, to absorb the amount of information, that is really huge and overwhelming, it is better to go without the extra sounds.
