I knew why the last judge was waiting. He was waiting to hear that she also has a singing voice, not just a talking voice. She gave that clear sounding voice at the end, and that's what he was waiting for. "Can she sing other songs as well??" is what he was asking himself.

His name is Florent Pagny and he's a singer with a large vocal range and the show he always prefers singers who can really sing (Whitney, Mariah, Celine Dion vibes)

That’s exactly it. At the beginning he said « Il y’a du grain » and essentially said her voice is grainy. He wanted to hear tone from her and not just the ability to tell a story with emotion, but rather to channel that emotion into a sound that truly evokes the meaning in a flamboyant and clear manner. He himself knows this kind of music well.
