Y en este concierto Edita hizo esta imponente interpretación al final; fue una “propina” final ! Impresionante

She sings very well in this phase of life. Like Sutherland, she took good care of her instument so that she could continue to sing at this age. Brava.

I was trying to find a video of her singing this aria and I hesitated a second when I realised this was in 2007 as I wanted to find something of her prime... and it just turns out every year is her prime... her voice barely has changed throughout her career

little bit... but after the INCREDIBLE aria she did sing ... is nothing... all the high notes where great... She just did relaxed after the las high note and abbandone the tension for the last note... she is human.. don't forget!! She simply the very best... I just love her! :) a real gift from god... BRAVA EDITA!!

Well, Sutherland already stopped at age 54 and I've heared & seen recordings of her last performing years and they do not compare in ay way to Gruberova at this age!

I might be biased....but after hearing Kathleen Battle knock this out of the park...everyone else leaves much to be desired..

I think we can't compare Sutherland and Gruberova!They sang the same operas, but they had a different voice!Gruberova is higher than Sutherland, and Joan is most dramatic than Edita! But I prefer Gruberova!Her high notes and hr coloratura make me very happy!*

Well, you are obviously confused. She continued until age 64. Her last recording years were in her SIXTIES, the voice was weakening and the top notes had an edge. Her last good Lucias were just before her 60th birthday.....Australia. Listen for yourself here on KZread....Tales of Hoffman Trio ..age 61. You will see you are mistaken.

Der singende Automat aus der Slowakei überzeugt mal wieder auf's Neue. Musikalisch ist sie nicht, aber die Töne sind umso klarer und deutlicher als bei den meisten ihrer Kolleginnen. Außerdem hat sie diese unglaubliche Kraft, die sie wirklich ausmacht. Dennoch immer wieder schön, sie zu sehen! :o)

I don|t hate her, I actually like her here. But the Joan Sutherland comparison is bogus, I'm sorry. And please, dear, keep the name calling at a minimum.

Elisabetta, do you even know what you're talking about? Sure, Sutherland was built like a truck and could sing for days on end, but Edita's coloratura/agility, acting, diction, personality onstage, etc. blow Joan Sutherland out of the water. I haven't yet found a single aria where I prefer Joan's voice to Edita's. And please, don't critique Edita's high register -- she obviously had better access than Sutherland did...

I actually like dessay more because she just makes it look so easy, Gruberova tries too hard on some of this high notes in some of the movies of her sing, and I think her tone get's a little too nasal. Gruberova is definitely one of the best, but I think Dessay IS the best.

I think you are dead right- don't know why some numb nuts brought up Sutherland in the first place. This is a clip of Grubbys so JS has nothing to do with it.

Because she gave great performances too. I.E. her Yerbinetta, Königin, Donna Anna etc. I just don't like her past 1985.

...did Dame Joanie ever NOT detach her penultimate note from the final high note, reset, and squeak? Nope! And although Gruberova may not always be the greatest actress, Joan's vacuous facial expressions make her look like she's just been milked that morning.

Gruberova does not compare to La Stupenda at all, be it when she was 20 or 60. And why does age matter at all?

sublime. altho i prefer Battle's interpretation, it doesn't take anything away from Gruberova's breathtaking display of her craft and singing prowess. WOW

Such bad taste:those portamenti,imprecise ornamentation, mannered emission, pitch variations (her final note is flat!)

I think Sutherland and Gruberova both have their roles theyre well suited to, and one must also keep in mind, they both had vocal declines later in their careers, something that is typical of more dramatic, larger voiced sopranos. This video is certainly past her prime, the high C trill she adds at about 5:10 is DISGUSTING, its really quite sloppy and distasteful. Theyre just very different, Joan's '70s Donizetti roles with pavorotti sound great, but she cant sing mozart, gruberova can.

Gruberova - Mannerisms, piano excesses, over-ornamentation, holes in the low register, weak middle, screeched forte (After 1985), mannered actress with about 2 expressions, scoops, moans, gasps and other unmusical ticks are realities as well.
