With closed eyes, the change is hearable. The 1280t for the price sounds really really great. But the 1700BT sounds in every way better. Deeper bass sparkling higher tones and the sound is more spaceious The 1280t is room sound and the 1700 a hall sound.

One of the most asked questions on this channel is "which one should I pick, R1280T or R1700BT?". My previous comparison of these two is one of the most frequently viwed overall, so I hope this one should bring new perspective to this question, thanks to different setup and new music. So... Which one is actually better? Build quality and features is where R1700BT gains significant advantage over R1280T, covering the price difference between them. R1700BT fells more premium than R1280T and looks sleeker on the desk. Bluetooth connectivity is another big plus for R1700BT. Soundwise, R1700BT again feels more like a premium product, offering less box colourations, more dynamic slam and more natural tone. R1280T, all though prefectly capable in its price range, falls short in midrange clarity and focus compared to more expensive brother. Bass on both reaches similar depths, but R1700BT has more control and less upper range boom. To sum this up, if You wonder which one of these to choose, go for R1700BT as the extra price is totally justified and than some. What do you think? Would You choose R1700BT over R1280T? let me know below! Cheers!

I was going to ask, what's different between this new video and this older one? kzread.info/dash/bejne/pHWLo8eynMe9ls4.html My thoughts haven't really changed much since then; the 1280T still seems clearer overall, and perhaps this is most apparent during "Full Speed". The R1700BT feels unbalanced, like the highs are too boosted and the bass is too recessed and loud. Although, the guitars and cymbals have more presence on the R1700BT. The loudness of the bass also comes out during "Dirty Swamp Jack". Whatever is going on in the mids, as well, makes the vocals of "Dream A Dream" sound more relaxing on the R1280T... Ultimately I still prefer the tonality of the R1280T and the fact that it is cheaper, which is why I ended up buying it. The R1700BT doesn't sound like an upgrade in *every* way. (Also, I don't care for BT or for the looks of the 1700, but that's an aside.)

I've had the r1700bt speakers for almost a week and I really like them (a lot actually). My "main" system consists of Magnepan MGIIIa's so I'm hard to impress. Make no mistake, the little Edifiers don't compare to the Magnepans in any category except "enjoyability". They have a really warm, musical sound that's easy on the ears. I have them set up about seven feet apart on stands, toed in slightly and about 2 feet from the back wall. Placement is important in order for these to sound their best. I debated on whether, or not, to spend a bunch of money for a second system and I decided that for the room that these are going to be in I didn't want to spend a ton. These speakers are big time bang for the buck. This KZread channel is what sold me on the Edifiers. The other speakers that I was considering were the Klipsch Sixes and maybe down the road I'll get a pair of those...who knows? In the meantime, my headphones are getting less of a workout and I've had the r1700bt's playing every day the whole time that I'm home and awake.

My headphones are audiotechnica mx40. On a blind listening test I was mostly unable to decipher which speaker was playing. Only when I started seeing the video could I notice the difference, albeit small. For my ears the 1280t was more spatial in music presentation. Prefer to go with the 1280t due to their performance to cost value compared to the difference in sound. Edit as on 7/7/2018: I have purchased the r1280t and am more than satisfied with its performance. The sound is mellow on the mids and base is tight even at full volume. As noticed the sound stage is spatial. The highs are not shrill and i can listen to music for a long time without ear fatigue. I was confused a lot between this and the r1700bt. However I chose the r1280t and think I did a right thing for my kind of music listening. The simplicity in function (plug and play), looks (for my kind of liking), the sound quality are the plusses of this model and give this model the highest value per cost as compared to others. It is no wonder that it is compared with other bookshelf speakers and fares well even though not in that range as far as cost and the other nuances are concerned. For a common person who wants to enjoy crystal clear music with out getting into the blah blah blah of audiophile jargon these are great.

Thanks so much for making this video! It is the best and does give me all answers about how both speakers can perform with different types of music. Personally I like the sound of the R1280T in the classical music. But I think the R1700BT has a richer and deeper bass sound and hope that the bass adjustment that come with the speaker can allow me to lower it down as needed. I think I will buy the R1700BT though I am not planning to use the Bluetooth option of the speakers at all.

I intend to connect them via bluetooth to my PC (omen ) for when editing on Photoshop and Lightroom, I also enjoy watching netflix on the laptop when on Ps/Lr on the external monitor (a 27 " 4k) . So I am transitioning from just having a "normal" audio experience via my PC's integrated sound card and my now almost 17-year old Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers to something....a little beefier. I have recently upgraded my PC to an ASUS X470 motherboard with a Ryzen 2700X CPU, and want to start getting the most out of my sound. I primarily listen to music and play my guitar along with it. Primarily I listen to bands in the Symphonic Metal genre...Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot, etc...along with other straightforward metal bands like Metallica, Disturbed, Rammstein, with some occasional Techno/Electric music thrown in for flavor. I like a good, deep bass that you can feel in your chest while also not overpowering everything else going on...so that gives you an idea of what I am working with and want to kind of aim for. My room is only 9' x 12'...but I know eventually I will be getting a larger home in the future, and my space for my "man cave" will almost triple...so I am looking for something "now" that will also be an excellent choice for "then". I just bought an Audioengine D1 DAC, and was planning to get a set of Edifier 1280BT speakers, or maybe even the 1700s....but also know there are a lot of other good options out there, like the Audioengine A5+'s and several others in that vein. But between these two Edifier's...which would be the better option?

What I want to know is why the 1280DB (bluetooth) comes with a remote that lets you switch tracks as well as pause, but the more expensive 1700BT doesn't give you any controls. That's like half the point of a bluetooth speaker which has a remote, that you have a common interface to control your music.

I agree and think some equalizer boosting of the midrange would make the R1280T sound warmer and fuller but still well defined. High volumes would then probably lead to ugly distortion though. It could be that the R1280T is really meant for long listening nearby in a room where the other more studio type speaker with much presence would tire faster.

Neither of them are perfect but they are still pretty amazing for the size and price. Of the two I like the 1700 for the way it handles the difficult bass lines better. There is more box colouration in the 1280. The 1700 also seems to separate the instruments a little better. I feel the differences are small enough that you could be happy with either although if you are picky go with the 1700.

I added now an equalizer to my humble Edifier R1100 and this way, a Bruckner symphony with its ridiculously wide, swelling dynamics can be enjoyed without alarming the neighbors. The speakers are directed towards me on 2 m distance. I put all that booming bass down, a lot of the fatiguing high frequencies too and then the remaining mid frequency rich sound is kept on low volume, except for the adagio part where the equalizer is passed. It's like listening to the orchestra from the dressing room but I don't care. The music is still present enough with these little speakers while on older 80's equipment with big speakers, it would be a too poor listening experience.

Interesting - just returned the 1700BT after using them for about a week; I like them well enough and the bass gets stupid loud, but it's like.. it's all upper bass. It rolls off hard by the time it's touching at 60Hz and even with volume up it's hard to see the woofer even moving. I have a subwoofer now, so I swapped it out for an R1280T since I heard it has less bass / less subbass than the 1700BT (and I don't need a dedicated sub-out on either edifier because I use an audio splitter for my woofer anyways). Funny thing - I swear to god the R1280T goes lower and harder in the bass region. The treble is a step back for sure and I'll miss that about the 1700BT, but the woofer sounds - to my ears - quite a bit more capable. Weirdddd. I could still hear and see driver excursion down at 40Hz, but it falls apart under that point.

1700 sound slightly bigger, wider and a bit more dynamic to my ears, although in this test (compared to the previous video) the difference is smaller. Hard rock sounds terrible coming from both of them, country music sounds more lively from the 1700, there's no difference whatsoever in orchestral music (sounds great though), hip hop is definitely best played through the 1280. I'd still pick the 1700 as in the blind test I scrolled up each time when the sound got better, and most of the time it was the 1700.

The price gap between them is quiet big, it's not worth for the sound quality difference, at least in my country (almost 100 USD difference). Maybe the Bluetooth capability is a logical reason but still...

If you are in a budget and you are really serious Yamaha makes good studio monitors for budgets. These are still gonna be good but they will be more bass-heavy and less accurate. The Yamaha's might be less enjoyable when just listening but they will be more accurate.

  • @dstns

If whatever monitor/TV you're using has audio out, the simplest thing would be to go HDMI from the PS4 to the monitor, and then go audio out from the monitor to the speaker set. Otherwise, I think you would have to do optical audio out from the PC to a DAC, and then from the dac to the speakers. This is going to add lag to the sound and the sound will only be adjustable from the speakers themselves IIRC. And if you're still looking for speakers, Edifier is having a valentines day sale right now.

Pop Ed sheeran, Sam Smith, etc 30% movie and game. Since I can not audition offline. The seller on my country closed due to covid. And only sell online 😑. Thank you very much.
