I have a specific use case question, can you have both the trs and rca inputs connected to different sources and will it switch between the 2 depending on what is feeding info to the speakers. For example ( tv plugged into rca, and pc plugged into trs ) and whichever one may be on and sending audio, will come thru the speaker at that time ? This is a solution for me being able to use one pair of speakers for either my pc or tv whichever may be on and running.

The white ones look slick as hell, I genuinely can't stop glancing at them every time I wake up, they really make my setup stand out. When it comes to the audio quality, I'm not even a beginner myself but I can tell they could be better even for a desktop environment, but they get the job done and, even then, they sound way, way better than other rudimentary 'computer speakers'. So, all in all, I am really satisfied with these.
Not sure how I missed this one. Thanks for always putting in the hard work. Enjoyed the switching camera angles when you were speaking. You are so polished and professional in front of the camera. Love you man.

Random camera switch a trend since 2021 :D Some guys use such thing too much.. Anyway about video.. Edifier MR4 is much better compared to Eris E3.5
I've had these for 2 weeks now and after getting a set of small speaker risers they came to life. Flat on a desktop, the bass was going right past me but bringing them up to about ear level with a small degree pitch it absolutely made all the difference in the world. When I was younger there was no such thing as narrow field speakers or monitors, at least not widely available to the general public. So this was my first introduction to them. I use them as studio monitors for recording guitar and as my computer monitors and they work and sound 2x their cost, easily. It gives me a very manageable balance for both purposes without having to sacrifice anything between the two. Just the right amount of bass response for recording to my DAW also! Much better balance with TRS cables too!

Thanks for this video. Almost about to buy the MR4s... Had me thinking again. So which studio monitor speakers would you recommend for the same price range? Thanks again.
So i just ordered these and im looking for a set of stands. Should i go for angled stands or taller stands to get the speakers at ear level? Have the space for both options, not sure which is better.

Merhaba , Edifer MR4 mü yoksa M-Audio BX4 mü almalıyım ? Karar veremiyorum
when we add a subwoofer we usually cut the speakers below 80 hz so speakers with larger woofer are no longer needed to go below 80hz, what is the optimum speaker woofer size for best sound quality when add a sub and cut the speakers below 80hz (3,4,5,7" ?) thanks
These cost $55 here in China now! 😎 I've had my current Edifier speakers for 12 years! But bass on one seems to be blown now...😅
Does the volume knob have steps, and if so how many in total?
How do you not have them on a desk or something so we can see the size
They seem pretty good for the price. I'm using Audioenging HD3s which cost 3x as much, and they definitely sound "boxy" to me. I had to mess around trying to analyze the curve using just my iphone mic, and winging it with a PEQ. Decent results eventually but if I have to go to those lenghs with a $300 pair, these are pretty decent for a home office.

I think if you manage your expectations, and if you can EQ these, you might be able to make them sound better than you might expect at this price.
Out of MR4 OR 1700bts OR PRESONUS 3.5 Bt which one is better for listening music and games.in terms of sound separation, soundstage ,clarity and base.
Would you recommend this over the razor nommo speakers?
Yoo even if it’s a studio monitor can I still use it for gaming?
Thank U for charts that explained a lot about quality of this speaker.
Hey man I'm back. 2 comments I forgot to put last time. 1) Would be great to hear your opinions on soundstage when you test these speakers. Maybe you do mention it, and I know you do the binaural thing sometimes, but I feel for so-called monitors that's quite important. Also 2) I had fun spotting your watch changes. I have the same CasiOak but reshelled in steel. Affordable cool watches for the win!
I can vouch for these. Recently purchased a pair and they are really good for the size and price. Not noticed any hiss even on RCA. My only criticism is the volume rocker is not very linear. Great buy though.

Does the volume knob have steps, and if so how many in total? In the video it looks as if the knob is turning continuously but could be just the movement of the hand that gives that impression.
Can't we have speakers with updatable firmware? If it was that simple as Joe says.
Hey man, any chance you will review the r1380db too? Thanks
I also have hiss speaker, my dad told me internal amplifier always hiss like that. So we use external amplifier and no hiss anymore.
I have both the S1000DB and S1280DB. The 1280DBs are $99 to $129 depending on Sale, and beat out, hands down, any of those single bar Blue Tooth speakers or those cylinder speakers out there for casual listening. I use them with my Kindle when watching movies or video. The 1000DBs are a great music monitor in my office/gaming room. Are there better choices out there, yes, but they cost more money. Funny, I bought the 1000's first for my bedroom, but they are too big for that application as I wanted something small and unobtrusive in that situation. The 1280's are small, don't really notice them until I use them. Remember, with Blue Tooth, max out your source Volume and use the speakers to adjust listening volume for best results. Bluetooth removes information as you lower the volume, where as powered speakers or receivers/amps remove gain.
Hello this monitor good for voiceover?
How they compare to Bose Companion 2?
I thought the measurement for the tweeter was 19mm?

Yeah, I ordered a pair of these as an upgrade for computer speakers. Should be delivered today. If the bass isn't acceptable, then I'll have to return em because of the lack of a sub out. From Joe's measurements, it looks like it'll be pretty anemic down low. I don't need this to thump like an SVS, but I want the bass to actually be present lol.

You can still add a sub if you wanted to, just by using a different connection setup. Also, a sub isn't needed and just a nice-to-have.. and also considering what you place value on (big sub bass).

Yessir! Good eye. It's the G-Shock GMAS-2100-1A aka the "CasiOak" because the shape resembles the Audemars Piquet Royal Oak. This is considered a women's watch, but I chose it because I liked the rose gold accents and I don't like overly bulky watches.
What about Edifier R1000T4? You can get these for holy $40 where I live. MR4 might sound a little bit better but not $60+ better 😅
Hi. Sub and thumb up 👍 Can You recommend monitors in close price range to mastering music please? I'm not on a big budget but I guess my AKG K702 is not enough...I have to buy some small monitors to make comparisons in the sound and check overall result. Greetings from the Polish Coast 🇵🇱🤘

Thank you for the review, are you recommending +6db for bass and +3db for treble in monitor mode?

I don't remember exactly, but I was just going based on what gave me the flattest response.
Like the new logo, great video as always, except for the awful speakers. You changed the camera angle when you said "I like it round," I may have to do a remix video with that. Joe likes it round, I like it round, I like it round...
I just discover how to set this speaker to boost bass of it like its magic! Set 6db at the back and set your Bass Enhancement in Control Panel to 6db and 75hrz. Works like magic! But undo after cause i do really wanted to hear the detailed of the music not just the bass.
got it for 45 bucks. A little hopeful im getting the new firmware one. If not then ill just eq it a bit to curb the sharp frequencies no problemo

A sub isn't necessary for music production. Yes, its good to have for reference but you should be mixing and mastering bass in headphones or a VERY controlled room which most don't have. So nah, a sub isn't needed for that and is a nice-to-have.. especially if you aren't doing bass-intensive genre like hip hop. Also you can add a sub by going a different route/setup with MR4s, they just don't have a dedicated sub out.
I'm using these as monitors-I'm just an amateur musician, ok, but I can tell you that my current setup with MR4 + Eris subwoofer is way way better than my old Tascam 5" 2.1 system, which was a lot more expensive at the moment, and supposedly a lot more "professional" (and big and heavy and inefficient, too). Not to mention the Samson Mediaone BT4 pair I also own, which still are being sold at around 165 €, which sound nice, but much less controlled and much less balanced than the Edifier. I'm really blown away by the quality of the MR4. I'm spending hours on listening to very well known music-and enjoying it like if it was new!...and also listening to my own productions and understanding much better than before what is wrong about them. And the only thing I could miss is the bottom end I'm getting with the Presonus sub. I think there are things that a frequency test do not show. Like how, when placed correctly (and that is not too close, let them breath!), these very inexpensive speakers give an amazing stereo image and an incredible amount of detail, while preserving the overall character of the recording. A tad too bright to be perfectly flat?...that was in fact my impression, but they also sound to me pretty much like the Tin Audio T2 IEMs or the Sennheiser 650s headphones I've been using lately, both praised (or detested) for its neutral, analytical, balanced presentation. I was in fact listening to an old BSO by Michael Nyman (digitally remastered, mm...) and thinking It sounded like crap on the MR4s. Guess what, it sounded exactly as crappy in the Sennheiser cans. Other than that, good for (competitive) gaming? Sure!, a good stereo image and detail and not too much bass is exactly what you want. Good as general purpose PC speakers? They got the quality you may want indeed, but I would look for a more gentle, HiFi sound signature. Good for a Tv set? No, they are not that loud, and they have this somewhat narrow sweet spot which was presented in this review as a disadvantage, and in fact it is for general uses, but pretty much the contrary when used for what they are intended. And well, I'm still tempted to go for the Adam TV5s as my main monitors, but I'm not that sure they will be really much better. Call me crazy.

how do you cable the subwoofer to be part of the system?
@WMRhapsodies
Жыл бұрын
@Košičan z Košíc Yep, those. I never liked them much, really. But these days I'm using the MR4 to monitor piano and synthesizers and getting some pretty bad resonances (on piano sounds, the E4 key makes the passive speaker buzz like crazy...). That was never a problem with the Tascam, since they are way more powerful and heavy. I have to say I need the MR4 to be set at max volume since I'm in a medium sized room, and I may be asking too much of them. As a secondary monitor set (or multimedia/video monitoring) I still think they'r brilliant, and I'm pretty sure you will enjoy them.

@@marcosseno Studio subwoofers like the Eris have inputs and outputs (plus filters, so you can set which range of frequencies the sub handles and which the speakers), so you don't need the speakers to have a dedicated output ( Edifier has also a standalone sub with also has inputs, outputs and a filter), You connect your soundcard/computer/whatever source first to the sub, and then the output from the sub to the speakers, either with balanced 8" jack cables or RCA.

Hi, casual listener here. I made a bit research the last few days because I was deciding to upgrade from my Creative Gigaworks T20 II (from my perspective great speakers for their price) and I think if you want more bass and bluetooth, go R1280DB, plus sub-out R1280DBs, or more neutral and better sound quality MR4. There's also new R1380DB that got better tweeters from R1700BT. There's also the question what outputs you'll use so check that in these variants too.

my two cents - Check "Edifier MR4 vs Edifier R1280DBs sound demo". Id say consider other Edifiers, 1280 are boomy: 1380DB - they are halfway between fun tuning of usual speakers and monitor flat precision. If u want it even cheaper, 1010BT, they are more sound neutral, but lack that punch. If u want sound fun wtih bit more details in the mids and stylish look, look up for some discounted 1700 BT(pr BTs. of u plan subwoofer later). But reason why MR4 wins over any of those is they can play mids very well, which is kinda impossible to find under 150 eur category.
I like their small r12u
I see .75 tweets acting as sort of super tweeters in 3 & 4 way designs, some might say they perform a bit better over 10k than a 1”, so it’s interesting to see them in this design, might present crossover design challenges 😂

Yeah, I see Edifier speakers as low to lower mid range computer speakers. They also beat a lot of sound bars, especially ones without subs and are a lot better than many single unit Bluetooth speakers. Definitely not close to professional monitors but a step up from single driver 1 way speakers and provide a pretty good sound for the price. Personally I'd get some KEF's and a Yamaha amp on the used market and get some really good sound for not much more.

Bad for you. Cause Edifier speakers is a proper bookshelf active speakers (not those plastic crap without tweeters like Logitech or something - which made only for playing system sounds, not for music. "boop boop, beep beep"). Talking about monitors - come on, man. MR4 is entry level home studio monitors, such as those from Mackie and Presonus Eris. And MR4 competes with them without hesitation. No one is saying that this is super professional studio monitors and a Barefoot/Adam/KRK/Kali killer.

People who are new to audio don't want to spend a lot, so I'm always trying to find the best bang for your buck. I'm still using the Monolith Encore speakers in my main home theater system and their bookshelf speakers are $260 a pair and I think they're awesome! Also, Edifier sells the most speakers on Amazon than any other company, and lots of well known companies sell on Amazon.
Need 5.5" or bigger for studio monitoring..4" is not enough for monitoring.
