Edible Gelatin Bubbles D.I.Y

˟ Mini Balloons
˟ Skewers
˟ Two tablespoons of Gelatin Powder (per color/ batch) or 6 Gelatin Sheets**
˟ Four tablespoons Water (per color/batch)
˟ Food Coloring
˟ Paper Towel
˟ Food Grade Oil
Directions;
˟ Blow each balloon to the desired size, tie once.
˟ Tie a second time and insert a skewer.
˟ Repeat with remaining balloons.
˟ Lightly wipe each balloon with oil and set into a tall glass.
˟ For each of the five colors [I used] I mixed two tablespoons of gelatin powder into a bowl of four tablespoons of water, that I mixed with food coloring.
˟ I used red, yellow, green, blue, and added two parts red to one part blue to create purple.
˟ Melt the gelatin for twenty seconds.
˟ Skim off bubbles, using a spoon.
˟ Dip one ballon at a time. One coat stays clear, two, and three coats will create a more solid color.
˟ If the gelatin hardens, reheat.
˟ Let the excess drip off with the tied end facing down.
˟ Place into a tall glass.
˟ Repeat with remaining colors, and balloons.
˟ To create a marbled balloon effect, pour various colors into a bowl and dip a balloon.
˟ Let fully dry, twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
˟ Once completely hardened, remove the skewer, cut along the base of the gelatin, and pop the balloon.
˟ Gently pull out the balloon.
˟ Repeat with remaining balloons.

Hello Bernadette, how are you? My name is Marcelo and I'm from Brazil. I just loved this video and I have a question. The bubbles are edible, but are made with unflavored gelatin. So, how can one eat them if they are unflavored? Is it possible to add sugar? If so, how much? Thanks a lot. XOXO

Marcelo Delfrate hey there! I'm doing great thank you, and yourself? Also Thank you so much 😁 Great question. They are edible as is, but yes not very tasty being unflavored, mostly decoration. I'd suggest adding just a drop or two of Agave Syrup, since it is already dissolved and 25% sweeter than sugar. Any flavoring extract should also work but only a drop. Also you could try Flavored Jello just way more concentrated, for example.. use half or even 1/4th of the water needed in any box of jello mix. The added liquid/sugar may increase the over all drying time but I believe it should work. 😁👌

Bernadettes P0ST Hello again. Hope I'm not disturbing you, but I have one more question. How should I store the bubbles? If I do it in room temperature won't they collapse or soften? What about in the fridge? Thanks you!!!

Marcelo Delfrate feel free to ask questions anytime, I really enjoy helping! 😄💚 Any moisture will create softening in time, even after storing the bubbles on a created cake in the freezer for a week the bubbles were still hard. The fridge has alot of loose moisture though so it would probably soften after 2 days. The best storing method I found was to Air dry and to keep dry on the counter. If you find the balloons are still wet, leave on the balloons until fully dry.. this can take a few days. It can be pretty humid here as I live on the east Coast by the Ocean. Hope this helps 😁

Be Leary of feeding these to anyone with latex allergy.. The balloon residue inside the ball will be enough to cause harm. I learned the hard way making water balloons for my little girl.. Eyes swelled completely shut.. Lips were quite nice and full.. Lol

Dana Fidler I would be guessing, but I'd say they would be fine left out for a month. I stored mine in the freezer on the cake for a couple weeks without any issues. As long as it stays dry, should be okay to make way ahead of time 😊

Yes! Clear flavoring would be best for the colors to remain the same.

Una capa crea un resultado fino y transparente. Deje secar unos minutos y luego sumérjalo en una segunda capa. Más capas crearán un color sólido. Se necesita muy poco tiempo de secado entre las capas.

Puedes hacer toda la gelatina transparente y después colocar el color. Primero poner al fuego medio litro de agua. Mezclas 1 taza de azúcar (refinada) para que los colores no queden opacos con 4 cucharadas de grenetina o 40grs. (Es lo mismo) Al primero hervor agregas en forma de lluvia el azúcar ya mezclada y revuelves a disolver, ya que este disuelto agregas 1/2 litro de agua fría, esto es para que de enfríe más rápido mezcla, una vez que ya esté todo mezclado y casi frío puedes separar en diferentes porciones para pintar del color que desees, también puedes agregar esencia incolora del sabor que gustes para que sepan más rico y ya de ahí sigues todo el procedimiento con los globos del vídeo.

Marnie Bussell Thank you! I used regular size balloons only blown up a little so they were way too large 😅 I think the smaller water balloons would yeild over 20.

I used these for decoration, but I did taste a piece of one without the flavor syrup. It tasted like nothing really, so not good or bad for me. I would suggest adding flavor though 😊

Obrigado. As bolhas não são resistentes ao calor. A temperatura ambiente é boa mesmo em um dia quente. Mas perto de temperaturas mais altas, provavelmente derreteria.

Supongo que porque estas que hizo tienen mucho más firmeza que las gelatinas compradas . Aunque tal vez funciona igual si agragamos solo un 1/4 de agua al polvo de las gelatinas que son para 1litro por ej para que sea mucho más firme.
Allo, il me semble que si l'on mettait un peu de sucre et un peu de vanille dans le mélange de gélatine, ce serait meilleur.

Esa es una idea interesante para rellenar con gelatina después. Una vez que las burbujas se endurecen. Quizás llenar y enfriar con gelatina. Idea brillante 😁👌🏼

Thanks... 1 tablespoon powdered gelatin = 3sheets leaf gelatin. So six sheets per color or batch. The X5 meant the five colors I used. I made 5 batches.

Try heating it in a saucepan and stir until dissolved. I believe the veg should work, but I've never tried.

Alicia Lynch I would add flavor extracts like cotton candy, it is clear. And for sweetness perhaps a crushed sweeteners, you could buy in the baking aisle. Added before microwaving and stir after 😊

Tem que aquecer no microondas ou banho maria. No vídeo fala se a gelatina endurecer para reaquece-la.

Hola, lo siento, no recuerdo la cantidad exacta de burbujas que hizo cada lote. Creo que al menos diez burbujas por color y lote. Sí, se pueden hacer el día anterior.
