Edgyalbert presents: Everything You Wanted To Know about Vintage 501s But Were Too Shy To Ask

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We talk about the best garment ever made: the Levi's 501. We do an abbreviated history to help you on the off-chance you find an incredibly rare specimen and give you some general context on what you should be looking for when you buy vintage jeans. We go into the nitty-gritty about fit, measurements, and even how to wash different jeans depending on the wash and overall look

    As someone who consumes so much fashion content everyday, I usually get so bored by long form fashion videos, but this was so interesting and your passion for 501s is coming through so clearly in the video! Can’t wait to see more mr edgyalbert

    I have to say that if you want to find a pair of 60s and earlier Levis you need to devote a huge amount of time to finding a pair that won't break the bank. I live in the UK so they tend to be even harder to come by, and recently I did manage to get a pair that only set me back around £40, so never give up!

    About the red tab thing at 6:38 , from what I can remember Levis printed only the registered trademark instead of the whole logo because they needed to produce a certain percentage of their jeans with just the red tab and not the Levis logo to granted them copyright over the red tab on the back pockets of all jeans, because with the logo it was seen as a logo copyright and not for the idea of the tab.

    Great video - Skinny jeans, especially on men - was always a bad idea. So glad Levi’s still makes the Shrink-to-Fits! I bought my first pair of Levi’s STFs in 2010 - still have them (complete with a fade mark of my old flip phone). About 3 years ago there was a good sale on the Levi’s website and I ordered two more pairs of the regular indigo STFs. I haven’t touched one of those pairs yet because I’m getting great use out of the first pair. I wear them almost every day because they fit perfectly - like nothing else I own for pants. Im kinda torn that the baggy look has come back. Higher rises are back - sort of - but people still seem to be missing the mark on proper fit throughout. Thanks for sharing your insights!

    Hey albert, can u do a video on other good Levi's pants than the 501s cuz where i live the 501s tend to run out of stocks much. I did tried looking for shrink to fit pairs but most stores don't sell em anymore

    Been loving the videos! I have one video suggestion and one video request. The suggestion would to just be a top 10 kind of series on whatever you so please but on KZread now you’ll have time to ramble on each one specifically!(which would be great, I listen to these like a podcast while I do other stuff) and my video request would be a Jean washing tutorial! I have just been not washing my jeans and have had a few rip at the crotch and didn’t know that might have been due to lack of washing… it would be helpful to see what I should do! Thanks man keep up the vids

    also adding a QnA to each episode would be cool:-) don't mean to tell you what to do, just trying to drown myself in jean research to avoid irl stuff so I'm overly excited

    Yeah, grit builds up in the weave of jeans and then tears it apart from the inside like a mini chain saw. That's why washing is important. If you're not worried about them shrinking - cold wash, inside out, low spin, hang dry. Just make sure when you wash them, there's other stuff in there like towels. Also, hand washing is good too, just make sure you do lots of agitation by hand and rinse aggressively

    Hey Albert could we get a video on miUSA 505s (and orange tabs) vs 501s? I’ve found every pair of my 90s 505s always have a much much higher rise and wider leg than my 90s 501s, even though it seems like the adage is that 505s are the slimmer version.

  • @edgyalbert

    @edgyalbert

    I can look into that. I've found 80s orange tab 505s to be slightly higher rise and wider thigh-ed but more tapered. I'd have to do some research!

    @@edgyalbert thank you man 🙏🏼 I’ve tried looking into it before but there seems to be no good resources on the subject other than contemporary 505s vs 501s. Also a video on best Japanese/American repro brands for old Levi’s, Lees etc. would be cool.

    hey albert! this was a great video, i’ve been following you on tiktok for a while and love the content you put out there. I realise this might be outside your area of expertise, but i was wondering whether you know of good quality vintage (or contemporary for that matter) pieces in the european market. or maybe if you could direct me to some resources where i might find some information. much love!

    Are there any 501s with high rise? or which Levi’s jeans has the highest I probably should ask. Such as the 13mwz

    Vintage pairs tend to be high rise. At least until the late 90’s? eBay sellers with often measure everything and you’re looking for I think 11-12ish inches for high rise
