Thanks so much for this video. For anyone doing something like: Cable Modem > Router > Switch > PC....once you get the router configured and connected to your cable modem cycle the power on your switch if you can't connect back to the internet or log into the router. Spent like 10 minutes trying to figure out what was going on.

Awesome ok ok I need this I been scared to make my network. One question is what Modem did you use? Regular supplied mode Or bought one?

I'm currently running ISP's built-in GPON converter modem on PPPoE (128MB RAM, dual core) and using my Wifi Router (also 128MB RAM) on DHCP which works as both a Wifi AP and a Router. I have two questions: Q1: Is it any good to switch the ISP's device to bridge mode, add an ER-X (256MB RAM) in between on PPPoE and keep using the Wifi Router on DHCP? Does the internet performance improve at all with around 10-15 connected devices? Q2: Does ETH 1,2 and 3 on the EdgeRouter X work as Gigabit LAN ports so I don't have to buy an extra switch for hardwired PC? Thanks a bunch if you see this and answer my questions!

Sorry if this is a noob comment, can I plug the EdgeRouter X directly into the Ftth box? Does one HAVE to have the Modem bridge?? Thanks so much

At what point in the process should I switch your isp router/modem to just be in bridged mode? Would you do it after you’ve done it after you plug the modem into the edgerouter? Or before? And of before, at what step in the process? I am guessing if you put it in bridged mode too early you won’t have internet to be able to run the setup on the edge router.

In this video I'm using a cable modem > er-x > walmart router. I never changed the settings on the modem itself. But to answer your question, every ISP will be different. For example, the modem in this video didn't need to be configured, but when I switched to ATT after we moved homes, I had to put their "modem" into bridge mode so I can fully control the network on my equipment. Sorry to be so late on the reply.

Hey man, so I’ve just bought a UniFi Wifi 6 Lite Access Point, and I’m planning on buying an Edgerouter X. We’re moving to a new house soon, and we have two provider options for our broadband. They both advertise the same speeds, etc, but one of them says their plan doesn’t come with a ‘modem’. From what I’ve researched you can set your ISP’s provided modem/router combo into bridge mode so it will only act as a modem. So what I’m really asking is, do I need to have anything else besides the Edgerouter X and UniFi AP? Because the original Edgerouter X has passive PoE, which allows me to power the UniFi AP without a switch. So do I need to buy something else, to act as the missing modem? Sorry, I’m pretty new to this 😅 Thanks :)

The EdgeRouter X doesn't supply POE, you can power it with POE and it'll pass through what's left through the passthrough port. You'll still need POE for your Access Point. But to answer your question about a modem, your ISP should offer a way to get internet through to the ER-X.

You'll need a modem, it can't do the handshake with your ISP

If you have a full gigabit it will not work. Is capped to 700 mbps.

Image that, you get great wifi speeds when you're 15" from the access point.

how do u get the username and password
