This makes you realise just how fully formed Edgar Wright's vision is before each movie - 90% of the stuff on that brainstorming sketchpad is in the final film - when does that EVER happen!?

Most times a good director has the film visualised like a comic book, scene for scene. Except for when the producers have final word. Then, I think, the writer/director is screwed out of anything. I love directors cut. Ruined films get a chance.

Rhys Clark Film & media That’s a good point, I think I phased this wrong I meant planning every little thing can make your write predictable and for me at least writing “blindly” ( not really theirs a blueprint) can allow you to get to know and create your characters and get to know them like real people also personally I’m able to write and not overstay my welcome

Creating an "arsenal of ideas", to use the term Pegg mentions with regards to the flipchart, before you actually start scripting seems like a brilliant idea and something I might try for my next script. I liked the chart they had about the protagonist that just list character attributes, many of which never even made it into the final script.

My issue with this is how discordant it is from my own capabilities. How can you have a singular thought for each character or moment and then write it down and it is all relevant? I would start to write something and it would be crossed and rewritten and torn off and written over or begin huge and end small Or did they sketch out ideas on a piece of paper and then add the really considered ideas on to the flip chart ?

Coming at this circa 9 years after this video was published, with an observation that once I saw I coudnt unsee, but whats wider, Edgar's sideburns or Simon's nostrils?

  • @TheStarBlack

Bloody hell Simon Pegg can't wait to get through this, look at him desperately trying to turn the pages as quick as he can. He looks so impatient every time Edgar starts talking about something. Why bother if you can't be arsed?
