My mother gave me birth at home, with only my dad to help her, and this song was played while all the labor. My first breathe was with this music, these choirs, in my ears. She told me that she choose it cause she knew that I'll be like the spring, a vibrant soul full of warm and love. Whenever I feel lost, lonely, in distress or in low self esteem, I listen to this song, and I remember that I am loved.

It's a sad song of the gypsies. It doesn't matter what they are: Sinti and Roma all know it, including the Serbs, Bosnians and Bulgarians. The Ukrainians stole it from the ESC and claimed they wrote it. That's a lie. It's an old gypsy song and they own that 🎶 song. 💕🙋🏻‍♀️

The song was made on 6 th of may 1942 by the captured Serbs from the modern day Sarajevo (Republic of Srpska, Bosnia), in the train, while they were transported to Jasenovac (the nazi Croatian concentration camp). Overall 3000 people were captured, 2000 arrived alive in Jasenovac, 200 survived to tell the story. The original name in serbian is Djurdjevdan (6th of May is Djurdjevdan - St. George). For the first time, it was presented to publicity by Goran Bregovic a Serbian artist born in Sarajevo (then Yugoslavia now Bosnia). It was popularized in 1988 in the 'Time of the Gypsies' movie made by Serbian filmmaker Nemanja (Emir) Kusturica. Since then, Ederlezi appeared as the gypsy version. Although very similar, the Serb version is sad, while Roma is a bit happy. Nowadays, every state on Balkan has its own verion, except the croats, who consider it as a Serbian nationalistic song.
