My elementary schoolhead would bring his guitar and play and sing this song with us sometimes and tell the most dreamy stories about switerland and austria and the flowers in the mountains. To me this song always makes me remember those dreamy moments and make me dream a wonderfull landscape and peace. ( i’m almost 30 now, hè is almost 80)

I think you’re right Raylene! It’s such a timeless and beautiful melody! The genius of Rodgers and Hammerstein is that they composed the song in a way that it feeeeels like an old Austrian folk song so that even though it was just as new as The Lonely Goatherd or Do Re Mi when the musical & movie came out Edelweiss instantly evokes this nostalgic feeling … ♥️
