Here is the original recording of a performance that is admired by many great musicians from Django Reinhardt onwards. New York, May 28, 1927. Matrix 80941-D.

To think this was created at the dawn of electrical recordings and is over 94 years old, is in itself remarkable for its clarity. 🤗

So good it makes me cry. I just got a 1912 victoria for my 50 th birthday and have to get my hands on a copy of this. To think if he had lived all the other great tunes we would have had from him rip Eddie you were way ahead of your time and left us way too early

Chris Corman Congrats on your Victrola! However, if it is from 1912, you don't want to play anything that is electrically recorded on it. The diaphragm of the reproducer is not equipped to handle the greater frequency range, and while this particular record might sound okay, it will wear out faster on an older machine. I do hope you find a copy of it, though, if you haven't already.

This sounds a lot like our Brazilian Choro. Amazing to discover this, Lang was incredible. If you people want to listen to Choro, search for Pixinguinha, and guitarrists like Américo Jacomino (Canhoto), Aníbal Augusto Sardinha (Garoto), Dilermando Reis, Paulinho Nogueira, Raphael Rabello, etc... Thanks for uploading it

Harmonically and melodically, it remind me a lot of neapolitan music, which is not that far removed from portuguese fado and also brazilian chorinho. Being Lang neapolitan of origins, it makes sense.

Such a lovely tune, it makes sad to see some of today’s most talented artists put their abilities to waste just to be able to get by in the money making machine we call the “music industry” today
