The city was able to recover from the destruction of the World Trade Center complex, but that recovery (which was briefly interrupted in the 2008 financial crisis) ended in September 2019 as a result of liquidity and debt issues. The coronavirus pandemic began five months later and now everything is about to crumble around us.
