It's like he forgets he's Ed freakin Sheeran and I'm so sad he thinks he has to release songs he doesn't love just so he can release songs that actually are meaningful to him. I don't think he has to do that anymore but he forgets how famous and loved he is as an artist

Perhaps the song is like tooo emotional for listening to over and over. When I listen to it everytime it hurts so much, I feel so much, so I can't listen to it so often. And also it hurts in me, for me (in my life, för my experiences), but also for you - Ed - and how very emotional you do this. The song is absolutely beautiful! ❣️

i know Ed said that the idea of strangers watching him cry on youtube makes him uncomfortable, but i just want to thank him for still sharing his emotions, his grief with us. my dad passed away in October of 2021 and i still can't speak or even think about him without choking up. i just start crying. right now it feels like i will never get over it. tbh i was kinda starting to feel self-conscious about it. i mean, some time has passed, it should get easier. so to hear Ed talk about his experience with grief, or how his mom still cries about losing someone 30 years later, is comforting. the story behind this album has already given me some peace of mind. i'm sure the album itself will provide some much needed healing. can't wait to hear it. and i'm so sorry for your loss, Ed

When you said nobody noticed the f64. I just want you to know I definitely noticed. I'm 30 this month and at 21 years old I lost my best friend of 18 years in a sudden traffic accident. We were joined at the hip and grew up together but we had both recently moved to different cities to pursue our careers. Two weeks before he died we agreed to meet up but it sadly never happened. There was a 4 year period where I was so caught up in drugs and drink that I didn't really process what had happened. But since growing up, having children and straightening myself out, it slowly started to sink in, when he wasn't a godfather or a best man. And then you released the f64. I have never been spoken to so deeply or truly like I was with that song. And since it's release and hearing the rest of the tracks from the subtract album, I have really started to look inward and address how I'm feeling about it all. So yeah, if nothing else. You saved me from my inner demons and let me release them, making me a better finace and father. So thank you. P.s. I proposed to my fiance at your = tour in Manchester and my boys sing every song of yours I play.

Ed talking about being a real person reminds me of my friend who gets very hard on herself for making mistakes and I just look at her and say "okay human", = we all make mistakes. We are not perfect.

Thank you, Ed, for sharing your heart with the world. In regard to what was said in the interview, I think people will understand your pain despite your fame and popstar status. Everyone experiences grief, fear, turmoil, hope and love no matter who they are, and your album encapsulates these emotions to an incredible degree in the most beautiful way. Hope you and your family are truly doing well! I wish you all the absolute best. 💛

This album is well overdue for any artist, it is so refreshingly raw. It makes the artist seem so much more relatable and human, the listener feels the emotions and compassion through the music and lyrics. I love this so much. Thank you for allowing us to be a safe space for you Ed. ❤

I'm 25 and I lost my best friend on 2nd of April. He was only 22, would turn 23 on June. We were friends for 12+ years and when I heard ''eyes closed'' at work I drowned in tears and I so understand your pain and what are the odds you released the song shortly after I lost him.. I appreciate this song so much, it makes me feel alive. In a very sad way, but still it's a feeling. Stay strong !

Ed Sheeran is just an absolute remarkable singer songwriter who just writes with deep feelings about his true self. He's not writing songs about himself, it's about his real life stories and the struggles that he goes through. And like he had mentioned earlier, like some of his songs can definitely relate with other people who listen to his songs and just at least share their stories about their real life struggles too. Ed. You are amazing man. Keep up the great work and the rest of your musical journey man. Never keep on giving up. You got this mate. 👍🏻

This. This is what Mental Health Month needs. To hear that *everyone* struggles and that's normal and there is still love and hope and happiness and it's still ok to cry and grieve and be sad. It's ok to feel all the emotions and connect over them without shame. Thank you for sharing with all of us and letting us see that it's ok to feel and be our authentic selves. ❤

It is a privilege to have someone show their vulnerability to another. Ed, you have shown it to millions and millions are holding you in this vulnerable space you're still in, and will continue to be in. We may be strangers but I think every single one of your fans just wants to create a little bit of safety for you. I can't wait for my copy of Subtract turn up next week and it's going to be the first time I sit down, in quiet and listen to an album start to finish. That's how I can honour your grief and the deep nature of this album. I really hope that anyone and everyone that might read this comment and watches this interview listens to what he's asked about not turning his grief into a meme.

This album is full of so much emotion. It's hard to say that I'm enjoying it because we know how real the pain behind each song is. And it's because of that, that I feel super connected to it. Each of us are going through our own personal struggles and, at least for myself, are able to relate one way or the other.

These Ed and Zane interviews are always the best! I’m so glad that Ed decided to continue with tradition and do an interview with Zane. I feel that Ed was placed on this Earth to do exactly what he is doing and that is creating music that touch people of all walks of life all over the world. He has unselfishly shared his feelings and emotions with us all and has helped so many of us in so many different ways. His music has helped me cope with my worst days and smile, sing and dance on some of my best days…and even take me back to feelings I had as a teenager like in his song Runaway. My dad was just like the dad in the song and I totally had thoughts of running away. We love you, Ed! You are simply the best! Both Ed and Cherry seems like cool everyday people to have as friends.

When I heard Boat for the first time, it released some deeply buried grief inside me that I wasn't aware was still there. I burst into tears: deep, sorrowful, mournful tears. The kind of tears that cleanse your soul and leave you feeling a state of relief that you weren't even aware you needed until it was released. I listened to Boat over...and over...and over...and over again...to the lyrics...the wistful melody...the sorrow conveyed by those absolutely GORGEOUS violins. Even now, thinking about it, it brings tears to my eyes. I haven't fallen in love with a song in such a long, long time...and I fell in love with Boat on the very first listen. I've lived long enough now to be able to recognize a song that I will listen to until the day I take my last breath, and Boat is one of those rare songs. I would place Boat up there with timeless songs like... God Only Knows Wish You Were Here More Than A Feeling Nothing Compares 2U I Can't Make You Love Me This Is Our Last Goodbye In my opinion, Boat is not only a once-in-a-carrer song, it's a once-in-a-lifetime song. I'm just so very sorry to learn of the irreparable loss that another human being had to suffer in order to write it.

Thank you for this interview. I lost my grandmother in 2021 and this is the most I've ever liked Ed because I could deeply relate to a lot of what he said about grief and be comforted by it. It can be such an isolating experience that it's really important to share it with others because it's part of our common humanity and needs to be better understood and supported, rather than shamefully shut away behind doors. Thank you for being vulnerable and honest. It meant a lot to me. (Also Bad Habits was always a banger and anyone who was lukewarm about it just has poor taste in bops.)

Ed, you are a person and a human being. No money or fame can change that. I wish I could just hug you and tell you that it is necessary to grieve, and while nobody is entitled to know what is going on in your life, your openness will really help other people to get through their own lives with their own grief and tragedies. Thank you for being genuine and being so true to yourself.♡ much love to you!
