Ed Sheeran obviously has an amazing voice and slays the pop genre, but he’s really pretty diverse. He can legit rap. He had a stutter as a kid, and didn’t gain much from traditional speech therapy. But he got the Marshall Mathers LP as a 9 y.o., memorized it, and rapped along…and credits that (and by extension, Eminem and rap in general) as helping him overcome the stutter. He also has some other fire tracks that are outside of the pop genre. One of the most fascinating ones to me is “Blow” with Chris Stapleton and Bruno Mars. Not a single one of the three is primarily known for rock, but it’s a pretty dope song that’s very reminiscent of ‘90’s/‘00’s Lenny Kravitz. And Ed’s cover of “Make It Rain” is blues-rock, and so, so, so good! Ed's heart belongs to hip hop and he started off as a rapper but it went nowhere as a red head in England. He told Em that story which is how he got the rapping track with 50 ad Em, Ed's verse tells his rapping dream story. He is lyrically brilliant and has been tied into hip-hop since he 1st worked with Em in 2017.

He’s always primary been a singer but rapped from time to time. I don’t ever recall him purely rapping and I’m a fan from England since he was doing freestlyles and covers for SBTV back in 2010. People were definitely fans of him back then. He was collaborating with UK grime artists and people actually rated him but generally speaking back then grime wouldn’t take you to international success like pop would. Being a ginger in England who raps had nothing to do with anything ahaha. And he was tied to hip hop before the Em collab. That collab was fire though!🙌🏿🔥

@@MRAAng-on2jg I think when Ed talked about his love for rap and his interest in trying to rap was before 2010, he mentions more than once about how he overcame his stutter by memorizing the MMLP as a teen. In the verse with Em and 50 he talks about his rap dream and how he was told "Stick to singing, stop rappin' like it's Christmas". He gives more details in an interview about his love for rap and hip hop. I don't know a lot about him I just remembered the interview

I know he’s been interested in rap since he was a kid. I was saying that I have been a fan of Ed since he stepped on the scene in 2010 and he wasn’t strictly a rapper. He was a singer who occasionally liked to rap on his own records or cover hip hop records. He’s never been 100% a rapper like Em, Pac etc. He’s been an artist who sings and raps like Lauryn Hill, Andre 3000, Childish Gambino or Doja Cat (for modern comparisons). His verse in the song you mentioned was him saying that he is a multidimensional artist and he wants to sing AND rap, not just be boxed into singing. And I think most artists feel that way. They don’t want anyone (especially music executives) limiting them in their craft

You should react to Ed Sheeran's acoustic version of Eraser which has extra verses and he raps for like 5 minutes. Although rap might not be his main strength, the amount of groove he has when rapping while playing guitar is impressive.

I would say globally, ed Sheeran is one of the biggest superstars in the world. But he grew up battle rapping. He has a four song EP with Yelawolf from 2012 called Slumdon Bridge. He’s obviously a pop star, but he has a deep love for rap and hip hop
