I just want to say thank you for this song. I'm suffering from compound grief. My sister died (quickly) from cancer in September, and it hit me hard. We were really close. Then my mom died in November, just before Thanksgiving, after having a hip replacement. I was with her when she passed. I had to take care of her final wishes and service. Then my father passed in his home in January, just before my birthday. I found him. I had to do everything from getting him cremated, planning his service, cleaning out his estate, etc. In that 5 month period of time, I also lost two friends (one was in his early 30's) and my aunt. I'm so depressed. I heard this song and immediately connected to it. It's absolutely perfect. So thank you for sharing this. It was even released at the perfect time. As a matter of fact, I even told my mental health counselor about the song. It's absolutely beautiful.

I'm sorry for all your losses so soon. I dealt with it when I was 16 my dad in April and my grandpa in May. I know how bad the grief is. May you find peace. I know it's a heavy feeling. I'm sorry you have to go through it. Find the strength where ever you can!

I lost my husband to cancer in January and this song just reached down into my grief like a hand. He passed away two days shy of what would have been our 30th wedding anniversary and some days I feel like I am doing exactly what you sing about. I still see him, feel him, everywhere. Our daughter has always been a big fan of yours, and she introduced me to your music. What you write and sing about touches people deeply. You are such an intuitive singer/songwriter and your songs are full of raw emotion, and evoke the same. My daughter and son-in-law even used your song Perfect for their wedding song, as it really does describe the love they have together (they have been a couple since they were 15, married 5 years yesterday, and now have a beautiful little girl, 2 years old). As much as this song made me cry, I know I need to let it out, and it's so beautiful, even as it is heartwrenching. It is the mark of true talent to be able to evoke so many different emotions in your fans. Thank you for sharing your gift with us all.❤

I lost my Souls partner in October and my almost ex in March after almost nine months of hospitals and rehabs after a nasty swan dive down the cellar stairs... in the end... all there is is love and we are left dancing with our eyes closed. The scene where we see everyone else being followed by grief just hits hard. Its the reminder that we all have to go through this eventually, but it is also reminding us that we are not alone with our pain.

I lost my dad over 2 years ago, out of the blue, impossible to say goodbye as I live in a different country and we were in lockdown, when Ed released Visiting Hours I cried for hours, it was about everything I wished I could do, now, he just put into words everything I have felt, even characterizing what that sadness following you everywhere is.

As sad as it makes me every time I hear it, there's some sort of comfort knowing other people have been though it too - especially someone I look up to. This song is the same. It's beautiful and it addresses the constant 'lump in your throat' feelings that grief brings. I hope you're doing ok now, even though grief never goes away ❤

Ed Sheeran means the world to me. He’s helped me get through all the tough times in my life. Wether it’s death or sickness ed Sheeran is there. He’s out there changing lives because he defiantly changed mine.

some people say good music was only made years ago and I love the old music of the 70s/80s/90s but Ed just proves that good music is still being made today.

This song is another amazing one. I sat and thought about the video for a bit, and my interpretation. I think the fluffy character is a representation of Jamal and that everywhere Ed goes, Jamal is there, but not real. He thinks he sees him in everything he looks at. If you notice, at the very end, Ed says "I'm dancing with my" and then the character is gone. Like Jamal. A representation of the fact that Jamal is actually truly gone. A feeling of being alone and the emptiness that comes with it. I'm so sorry for Ed's loss. How devastating. I've not lost a best friend yet, but I've lost many family members. Grief is horrendous. Another amazing song Ed. See you in August.

I interpreted it as grief/depression. Him keeping his eyes closed was his way of not wanting to deal with his grief and so it gets bigger and bigger until it consumes him, leading him to dive off into the water. Only when he opened his eyes and faced it was he able to deal with it. And this brings him back around, away from the edge.

Oh ed. Losing someone is fckng hell. This just hits deep. I am proud of us for making it up to this day. I lost more than a friend, I lost my mom 4yrs ago and it’s still fresh. Just like this song I am delusional thinking that she’s coming home soon too. I think the pain wont ever go away but somehow it’s a relief because I’ll forever remember that I had the best mom in the world. I love you Mama. Thanks Ed. This is wonderful. Worth the wait.

When he makes down to earth, soul-inducing songs, this is true. But in recent years he's made music mainly to please the larger audience which means his music is very much like everything else being produced. But I'm hoping subtract will bring him back to his early days of song writing, which to me, was the peak of his lyricism.

Absolutely agree. I think we have two of the greatest artists living right now on earth. Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift. Both incredibly gifted songwriters with unmatched versatility. Soooo good.

My fiancé passed away February 2021 and my best friend passed away December 2022. This song describes the the life I live now. The monster that followed him around was the perfect representation of grief to me. It never goes away, it walks with you forever now. I’ve learned to embrace and move forward with it. Sending you big hugs. I lost my first daughter 8/9 years ago also. Youre a strong person... We do dance with our eye's closed and without them.. But were here making the best however we can. You're a strong inspiration to everyone who knows you, im 100% certain.

This grief also translates to anxiety always feeling like there’s something there with you judging you always following you and having an overbearing weight that’s hard to escape. It’s such a beautiful song and is relatable, portrays emotions and it’s not just some song that can make the most money for you it’s real.❤️

I started thinking about it, and now I’m trying to think of grief or anxiety as a big fluffy creature trying to help me get through life. So it is always watching and trying to help, but when we try to hide from it, it doesn’t work. Embrace it and try to live with it. It may never go away, but you can learn to cope. ❤

Dear Ed. This came out at the exact right time. My boyfriend's father just passed away yesterday. We are grieving so much. It will be very hard for us and his mom in the future but this video shows exactly how it feels. I wish I could hug you. I went to a concert of his in 2015 and he’s still to this day the best artist I’ve ever seen live. His voice is so good that it actually sounds better live because a recording studio cannot do him justice. Like imagine being that good of a singer that your voice cannot be captured in its best form.
