A guy like Ed who came from blue-collar Youngstown with no connections to show business, He earned everything he ever achieved so he is far more gracious and humble.

@@Provos7777 it’s totally mind blowing how different he is from Al Bundy. It’s always mind blowing when you see these actors as themselves (especially tv show actors more than movie actors) rather than the characters they play, because we always only see them as their characters they play so we think that’s them in real life too. It was the same thing with Kimmy from Full House. Andrea Barber (the actress that played her) is sooo not Kimmy in real life. She’s actually normal in real life, she’s not weird and zany like Kimmy is

Arsenio had _The best_ modern flavored late night talk show, bar none, and it was because of guests like this. Ed has had a solid career for almost 40 years, and earned every ounce of praise he's gotten. *Fun Fact:* Ed is _still_ a great athlete in his 70s; guy's a ranked Jujutsuka, started in 2004

  • @gimmethepinkelephant3685

Actually Arsenio kind of sucked. He was ok at first but he just became sort of a stereotype and a cliché... He definitely didn't have the staying power of those like Carson, Leno, Letterman, or O'Brien.... As a matter of fact he wasn't even as good as Collin Ferguson. That's why he got cancelled so quickly. I think the problem with guys like Arsenio is that they try to black it up too much instead of just being themselves. And maybe you can blame that on the writers. But that's one of the reasons he failed. It's always best to cater to the overall crowd instead of trying to be the momentarily hot fad.... Fads come and go, but if you can sit there and grasp everyone in a crowd and not just those who attach themselves to such fads then you will have the staying power needed to run Late Night television.

@@kaptain_torrent_ well then tell me why those other two guys lasted for decades and Arsenio didn't?...lol! And when I say, "Stereotype", I mean the goofy kind of stereotypes that Arsenio didn't seem to understand that he'd become. And the difference between him and Conan, or Jay Leno, is that those two guys actually made fun of themselves and knew how to look in the mirror and crack jokes. But Arsenio thought he was cool, when in reality he turned himself into a basic black punchline without realizing it.

Yeah it was such a small role but he was so good in it. I heard he was cast as a judge or something and when he walked into the court the audience laughed, but it was a serious role, because he was still recognized as only Al. So they recast the part. That was good role in Bone Collector and he was totally a different person in it which I think helped his acting cause, since it was right after MWC ended. And rightfully so cause he is awesome!

Great interview! Arsenio asked some really good questions--and they weren't gags, or comedy bits. As the 90s went on and then the 2000s talk shows, everything started to look like a comedy routine (rosie o'donnell, jimmy fallon, etc..., even Conan in many respects). Arsenio always asked real questions, and things that were on everyone's minds, even their guests'. I'm sure even Ed appreciated giving his opinion on current events.
