Ed Bearss, eminent Civil War & WWII historian, recalls his service as a Marine in the Pacific Theater of WWII. Severely wounded in combat at Cape Gloucester, New Britain, he spent the next two years in the hospital.

Wow, saw him often as a Civil War historian. Never knew he was a Combat Marine Vet of WWII ! God Bless you Sir for your brave Service to this country !

I saw him yes on a history channel and he was recounting the battle between the monitor and Merrimac. I was thrilled by his crochety old timer delivery and always wanted to find that bit again. Great to see him here !

Ed is one of thse who have made our nation great. I have known him since the 1970s, but this is the first time I have heard his account of his grievos wounding. God bless America.

Ed is a real hero! It's actually kinda funnt, because the reporter asks him a question about emotions, "what was combat like?" and instead of him talking about the horror, his feelings of fear and despair, she gets a classic Ed Bearss answer with every detail according to military history. The local order of battle, where the flanks are anchored, the kind of weapons used, etc. I love that he's a bit eccentric! Just inimitable Ed Bearss, lol!
