This was the springboard to recognition. Every week I'll listen to them.
Echo and the Bunnymen are in my humble opinion one of the all time greats never ever sold out

Oh so you've never heard Killing Moon, Crystal Days or Bedbugs & Ballyhoo etc. then.
Oh my ears ! This is fantastic !
Totally rad stuff here, love that 80s moody sound. Thank god the plentiful amount of great artists during this time!
Perhaps not as influential as The Beatles but to me one of the best bands ever and still capable of creating fabulous music. I bought Crocodiles 'on spec' never having heard a track before, it just looked like it would be good...
Some genuine quality here.
So right. On time. This saved me from the void JD left.
I love the Zimbo (All my Colours) with the Burundi Drummers. That's an awesome version !!

Tough call - Tim Buckley (the best, for me), Nick Drake, Joan Armatrading, Subway Sect, Banshees, Wire ‘79 (Crazy About Love), The Fall (Sept ‘80), Sudden Sway, The Smiths three in 1983, Wedding Present 1st session, PJ Harvey 1st, etc.
I bloody love this. If asked to pick, then Turquoise days would be my fav Bunnymen track, so it's great to hear it here as a live studio recording. JP was a great guy.

Feckin magnificent ❤
@Benard Fequer - yes, these were the titles John Peel gave to the songs when he broadcast this session. I listened to it at the time and still have a cassette recording of it. I saw the Bunnymen quite a few times in 1980 and 1981. They were great then!

Golden smile is actually a reference to Julian cope of the teardrop explodes, an old rival. The song is show of strength. Arguably their best ever.
🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
13:18 Sample "Carioca Funk" to Rio de Janeiro?
The second track is "Show of Strenght" not "That Golden Smile"

The Peel Session version is called That Golden Smile. This session was recorded 5 months before the album was, so the title of the song was changed after this was recorded. Are you suggesting that I rewrite history?
Ian McCulloch greatest frontman ever ,Will Sergeant superlative highly experimental guitarist,Peter De Freitas sophisticated drummer
ZIMBO JIMBO. PEOPLE ARE STRANGE ?
They sound a lot like U2. Perhaps U2 was influenced by Echo & The Bunnymen.

U2 backed up Bunnymen at the Lyceum I was there...Bono prance up and down the stacks.....then out of the dry ice emerged the coolest most magnificent sound the Bunnymen blew U2 completely off stage...U2 broke up in the dressing room....it took the manager months to get them back together...they left for the U.S. to learn how to play
@ranxerox5310

No doubt its U2 was influenced by Echo & the B. Ocean Rain came out May 1984 and U2 realized they had to redo everything. Lo and behold out comes Unforgettable Fire in October of the same year. Both great albums but Unforgettable Fire was Ocean Rain rip off right down to the orchestration.
Drop life anyone?
i listened to their peel sessions a few times along with jesus and mary chain....can't say I bothered listening to the Cure unless I wanna hear boys don't cry
with the drum machine echo without pete de freitas
